Ok...This is my very first artical so I hope you enjoy it!
Although I am a Newbie to these forums and this site, I have been clicking for about 3 years and I hope this artical can help out some people!!! I have found the problem with games today(and not just Klik type games) is that there is no thought put into them and the story is really lacking... So this artical will be on "Designing A Game: From Paper To HardDrive"
ENJOY ; )
Ok where to start off...
Before you open up TGF or K&P or MMF or JAMAGIC or anyother game making program you need an idea. Now ideas don't just pop into your head so you need to brain storm!
(1)Think about the things you like in life
(2)Think obout the things you hate in life
(3)Think about ancient worlds you would like to see come to life
(4)Look at stamps from different countries
(5)Look at old or older books
Now you may think this is stupid but it really helps...I am making a game on Vikings cause I would like to see Vikings come to life! I also have an idea for a RPG game about this kid who wants to get away fromj his home and his controling parents...lol..I got this idea from the things I hate about life area ; )
The stamp ideas are awesome because they usally show interesting characters or myths and these things help out in the story/game process. If you don't know who the character is on the stamp search the internet and research!!!
Ok so now you have an idea about what your game is going to be about, now you need to think of the type of game you want to create... Do you want to make a RPG, ADVENTURE game, or any other game you want... once you have the genre of the game you would like to create, you need a story.
I believe the story is what is lacking in most professional and non-professional games today. I have seen sooo many great games that i trash right after I play it once because the story sucks! You need a good story to keep the players playing! I remember back when sega genesis was new and game companyies made cool games with awesome stories... even though thier graphics suck I still play these games because the stories are soooo good..today because of the aweesome graphics I find the games don't have a story, so if you have a brother/sister/friend who is good at making and creating stories the I suggest you ask for his help... If not don't worry!!! You can make the story to but write it out, take time creating it, revise it... once you have the story, you are ready to move on...
Now you need to bring your story to life! But before you pull up Photoshop or anyother graphics program I suggest you draw out a rough copy of the sceen you want to start with on a piece of paper in a nice dark black pen! You may need to draw many before you are happy with the scene...once you are satisfied, scan in that picture, bring it up in your graphics program and fix it up! After the dark lines are created and your black and white drawing looks great, then color it in! Create textures and make the scene look awesome!!!
(if you don't have a scanner then creating the graphics on the computer is fine...just take your time and if the picture looks like trash, then recreate it!)
Then you can open up a Klik program and start making your game! You will be glad you took the time to create the scene on paper, write up the story, etc.!!! But most of all have fun doing it because over time you will get better at it!!!
Now I hope this artical helped some people out and expect more from me in the future!

P.S. Keeping your rough drawings and story in a folder will also help because then you don't need to worry about finding the lost pieces...Also everything is in one place so you can also find stuff better : )
