Howdy all,
I'm a shiny new member of The Daily Click and just thought I'd ask a few simple questions.
Firstly, I'm a user of TheGamesFactory and have used pretty much all the resources supplied with the package (As well as artwork, music and animations of my own) to create a very very simple game that I'd like to recieve feedback on. Of course, being new,I'm not too sure how things work here so I didn't want to paste rakes of questions into the wrong forum, so I thought I'd ask them here.
For a start, can my games be uploaded here so that people can playtest and criticise it?
Secondly, where would be a good place to look for MIDI/Sampled Music / Sprites / Images that would be ideal for game creation?
In regards to my game I've already posted about it in seperate forums, but seeing as Game Creation isn't as popular a topic there than I would like. This, however, seems to be the place for it
Beside all that, howdy all!
Suggestions given will be greatly appreciated.
You can't "upload" games here as such - you can submit them but you need to use a different host for the file itself. As a general rule, stay away from Freewebs. A common one is Sitesled; I myself use the space I get from my university. There are many of them, though, and I'm sure others can recommend their own.
Once you've got your game uploaded you can submit it via the Downloads link - providing a description of decent length and at least a few screenshots will make your submission far more likely to be accepted.
For MIDI music, a common resource is www.vgmusic.com - more and more people are starting to write their own, though borrowing (or "ripping" as it's called here) music from other games is generally a lot more acceptable than ripping sprites.
Thank you kindly!
Been hunting for webspace of some description for some time now, so I'll most definately look that one up!
As for the Game I actually found the link shortly after posting and have thrown it up in the hopes of getting some constructive criticism. I have to wait for an Admin to approve first, however.
The MIDI file situation was rather annoying at the time because I never knew of decent places to get some, so most of the ingame music was either supplied from GFactory or collected from random site (And were often remakes of other tunes). I have a theme from FinalFantasy 7 stuck in my game, and thats something I wanted to avoid. The music was great and all, but I just wanted new stuff
Anyhow, big thanks for the reply!
I'll browse around those links sometime soon!
Hi there
Ok, I uploaded the game, now another question.
Will it be seen at all or do I have to point people in it's direction?
(Or am I blindly looking around the website with little idea of what I'm doing...)
Ohh, while I'm here and considering it's the misc forum, forgot to ask how one goes about copyrighting a product?
For one, if I can, I'd like to protect my little game from theft, even though I doubt anybody would want to steal it anyway (It's not that great) but I've always wondered how one can go about copyrighting.
Thanks again for any and all help given.

You don't need to do anything special to copyright it, as soon as it is finished in a tangible form it is automatically copyrighted, its up to you if you want to put the "(C) 2005 - AJ Duffy" but it doesn't matter either way.

I'm just happy to have stumbled onto a site that's right up my alley!
Been making games from the age of 7, starting from Text Adventures on the C64 & Spectrum 128k, to the 'Shoot Em Up Contruction Kit' (SEUCK on the Amiga), and I also modify multiple forms of PC games as well as make modifications for for games like HalfLife, CounterStrike, Quake, Max Payne and, next in line, Dawn Of War.
Thats why I feel weird posting up MehPong (My game) up here.
It looks so bland in comparison to my other projects, but I'm an immensely proud and constructive bloke, so I look after all my created children
