Do you think that computer could ever develope conscious thought? before you answer take a look at 2 resources that more in depth define what conscious thought really is.
Conscious thought is the ability to make decisions based on past memories, experiences, locations, current experiences (such as temperature) knowledge about the surroundings and the situation that is presented, occupation of the mind (computers cant idle), habits of creatures based on there body structure, habits based off of personality type ect.... ect... ect..... the list goes on! But then we must ask ourselfs what is defined as knowledge? the common knowing of things and the universe around us as perceived by the individual? what makes the mind need to be occupied? why cant we idle? How do we have conscious thought when were born if we have no way to view the world? No past experiances or collective ideas on the world itself. by definition does this mean babies dont have conscious thought? we know they must but perhaps the definition of conscious thought must be defined. Conscious thought itself is basically the ability of choice. Everything we do in life is a choice. for every 'frame' of life, every moment of living is a choice. even as much as to look to the left or to move your foot for comfort. [The conscious thought is the 'soul' of the body]
In all this is conscious thought and in my opinion could never be emulated to a true source of computers having conscious thought. They will get close being the computers will be 'living zombies'. They will have dictionarys and the abilities to define sentences and structures and choose random events to follow but could never make a real conscious thought. they would never really be living (living by thought not flesh).

But I seriously want to know your opinion on the subject and your ideas on conscious thought and how it is defined by man and what we would need to do to in basic, create a living entity and the obstacles we face. how would you eel religiously if computer consciousness was created? please share your thoughts
I do but not very motivated to click. Mostly because I got cought up in life and having a job, going to school, studying and hanging with my friends in my spare time. im really running out of time to click but yes im working on an RPG when I can while 3 other projects were ditched with 1 pretty much done just decided not to release.
I also decided to practice other forms of art like making techno, visual art and such but learned im not too good so ill stick to clicking

I've heard that the reason we don't have memories of being babies is because at the time we didn't have language--language helps us store coherent experiences, and so without we store more implicit memories as opposed to explicit, conscious memories.
As for the computer question, it's hard to say. The human mind has always been compared to the latest technological model available; next we're going to compare it to quantum computers, or something else. Seeing as we don't really understand how consciousness arises and we don't really understand how the brain works, I don't see how we could build something complicated enough to reproduce consciousness. It might happen, but not for a long, long time, in a galaxy far, far away.
Study actual and past works on neural network subject and I think you'll see that there's a chance that you'll see that day when computer will be hardly able to act like a little baby. Compared to the fastest computer processors, human's brain is nowadays (AFAIR) 10^8 times 'faster', so there's a lot of work to do to find more efficent ways of processing information for computers.
We don't know what we're trying to emulate, that's the issue. And even if we did, let's face it, it's not exactly the most useful application to have running on your desktop, is it?

That's a bit interesting. I learnt to talk at a much younger age than my brother or sister and I've also got a really good memory of my early years going back to before I could walk.
These are all really good points. I personally dont think its possible but I got into this conversation with my friend and he had some good points to show also.
Memories can be anything, we wouldn't need a language to help remember tactile memories.
That's sort of what I meant; you can store implicit memories without language, but it's much easier to store explicit memories WITH language...also, apparently your sense of smell can help store memories, so when you smell the same thing later it brings back memories connected with that smell. I've had that happen with the beach.
