Okay guys, we know this much: when you create a portal, the exit portal in the nether is probably going to be generated a few blocks away, somewhere 'safe' - i.e., not in a wall, in lava, etc. This is why when you return through that portal, a third is created in the real world, miles away from your original (1:8 blocks), deep underground in an unexplored cave or something.
Pretty simple right? But what if one of your netherside portals is deactivated by a ghast's fireball, making it a void obsidian frame? And then you die in hell, respawning topside, your topside portal now unlinked to a specific exit? It's going to make a new portal in the nether, yet further away due to the mass of obsidian now sitting in the safe area it would have originally corresponded to.
So basically, there's going to be a lot of heartache for anyone with the modest enough ambition of fast travel through hell.
It's still awesome, even if the Halloween update has left the game considerably more broken than it was before.
While your in the nether, each block you move is multiplied by 16 blocks in the real world. So if you moved 10 blocks in the nether, it should put you out somewhere 160 blocks away. This is great if you want to travel really far in minecraft. However the portals dont seem to link directly to each other. If you build a portal in your world, then go back in the portal that you just came out of in the nether, you'll end up somewhere else.
And you can reignite the portals in the nether if they ever go out. A good idea is surrounding your portal in the nether with a cobblestone house, since it wont get caught on fire or explode.
...and what's this about a jukebox that plays records?!?! i saw it as a recipe on minepedia, and that's goofy.
You can create a jukebox by placing a border of planks in the craftbox and having one diamond in the middle. Currently there are two records that you can get. One is green and one is yellow. You can either find them in chest that are in dungeons (monster spawners) or if you can get a skeleton to shoot a creeper to death you'll have a chance of getting one.
its pretty much already turning into an mmo. without the first m. its not massive but its sure fun playing multiplayer. i dont doubt that someone will eventually mod a server to have set pieces, quests, buildable areas, etc. the game is pretty much the perfect sandbox mod game.

Well, online or not, I need a solid server to play online smoothly. I was trying to play online with duncan.. and it's very unstable. We need a SUPER SERVER with 1000s of players! the guy already made like 6 millions dollars out of minecraft and ppl keep buying it, he can definitely buy a super server and charge 5 bux a month, he'd regain his money in 3 days!... and then keep getting richer. But no! He's just doing these lil updates whenever he has free time!
Imagine thousands of players on the same land! Single players make awesome huge structures on their own, they spend hours, days on it! Imagine dozens of players building the finest castles of iron and gold! They'd have zombies get inside and close the door so they stay there to guard the halls! I could sell zombies. 5 zombies for 1 gold block! Perfect sale! I'd keep them behind a steel door only I can open, anyone tries anything folly? I pull a lever and all this hot lava will fall on top of everyone's head! they'd respawn so far it'd take them hours to come back! I'd take me a while to refill the lava chambers though... maybe i should have a direct flow from the ground.. hmm interesting. If I make a successful sale I'll force the zombies to get on my coal fueled cart and deliver the zombies by train, zombies shall
about a week ago i was deep in a mine looking for diamonds. i found 2 of them and them promptly fell into lava, died, and all my stuff burned up in a fiery blaze, including the diamonds. haven't played it since. lol.
