So has anyone taken a look at the new PSP2 SONY just presented?

Here's some information on it if you haven't heard of it yet:

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/110127a_e.html

It has
-Quad Core CPU
-Touch Screen and rear touch pad
-3g and WiFi

But the most interesting tid-bit was that it would be running the android OS and be able to run android apps as well.

Clickteam is currently working on a Android exporter for Multimedia Fusion, so it looks like we'll have even more devices to enjoy our games on!

Thoughts?

Maybe!

It says games developed for the Playstation Suite (PSN for Android) would be compatible. Doesn't mean anyone can get get stuff on there!

You never know!

Yup. You'd have to meet Sony's quality and functionality standards.

Well if there standards allowed stuff like angry birds then I'm sure we could meet them as well.

Knytt stories, or noitu love would be great to have on the handheld.

And besides, if history repeats itself we'll have any android app we want running on the system within a few weeks.

I don't think it's just quality standards. I'm sure there's an approval process and probably fees out the wazoo.

It's too early too tell though.

it just means that the stuff they make for their android based playstation phone will be compatible on the psp2 as well. doesnt mean the psp2 will be running android.

also, this thing is gonna be expensive. and i dont even like the way it currently looks. it looks like an old psp made super round.

Well I liked sony's original psp, and I've owned every one that they've made including the go.
This redesign is basically what apple did with the iphone 4, but I don't much care as long as it's faster than the old one. Which it is.
I'm interested in getting your opinion on what's wrong with it exactly? What do you not like about it?

I've read in a few places that the psp2 will be running the android OS, or a version of it.

Either way, after a few weeks we'll have whatever we want running on it like I said before.

I've never read that the PSP2 will have Android. The Xperia Play (Playstation phone) will.

Also, I read an article where someone was claiming the PSP2 would be more efficient than phones with comparable specs because it wouldn't have a bulky OS.

Can't produce a link since there have been so many PSP2 articles though.

Here's an article that claims that it runs android:

http://zlstudios.net/2011/01/tech-thursdays-12-android-3-0-honeycomb-sdk-psp2ngp-here-android-apps-on-playbook/

Sony said that the Xperia Play wasn't being made by them, so it could be a Chinese knock-off.

The Xperia Play is a Sony Ericsson phone.

I'm not sure I'd trust that article.

I read it on pspupdates.com as well, but I couldn't find it again. Their site is so messed up these days. ugh.

However, at the very end of this article is where someone from sony is either hiding the new psp phone, or doesn't know anything about it. I dunno.

The Xperia Play hasn't been officially announced, hence why they're denying it. A few of the devices have been leaked - Engadget even did a video preview of the device and it's operating system. It's almost a certainty it's not fake anyway.

It also hasn't been announced whether or not the PSP2 is or isn't running Android. If it is then it's still likely you'll need the PSP2 SDK to actually build and run games on the thing.
