Hay! New guy. Newly signed up anyway, I've been following the site for a couple o' years.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo... I'm interested in joining or forming a small team and get some good ol' collaboration going.
Me? I'm a programmer, tired of working on every detail when I just want to code. Currently working in java, but I also know lua, quite rusty at cpp, and ofcourse I've been kliking since k&p. I can also do some graphics and music. Not very good at characters though, I'm more of a retro tileset guy.

So. I imagine the ideal group as: coder (me), complementing artists and a musician. Possibly a writer/designer, but I figure we'd do that together.
Basically, as in the title, a small Hobby Team working together on games for fun.

I'd currently prefer to work in java to get better at it, but kliking is fine (Lua object yay). I know tilesets, custom movement, advanced level editors and what-have-you, and I have several ideas for games, features, gimmicks and whatchamacallit.

So... that's it. I've got a couple of unfinished example games I'll be uploadning soon that you can have a look at.

Post away if you're interested, need a programmer or whatever.

Welcome to the club Golem,

got any idea's about what kind of game you want to make with your hobby team? Or why you need a team at all? Just out of curiosity.

An unfinished team project, which actually never really got started, was a gta1 like game. At the moment I am not looking for a team, but that's basically because holiday is over and I need to get back to work (teaching maths that is). And when working there is little time left for hobby projects, even my own projects. Otherwise a team up might have been fun with you, since you code in java too (hey, is that a javadoc signature ).

Good luck with the formation tough.

Thanks!

I have some ideas, yes, but I'd like the team to decide together what to do. That way everyone's happy. Hopefully anyways.
Otherwise, I'm mostly into platformers and metroidvanias.

The reason I want to try working with a team is to split the workload, so I can focus on coding. Also hopefully producing a game faster than infinity months.

I work myself (packing birdrings) but I can imagine being a teacher would eat up your freetime alot more.

Hopefully this clears things up a bit.

So! I've decided to reveal some of my game ideas to hopefully capture some interest.

Firstly, lets have a look at my brainchild, the 'Skystar Chronicles' universe. The world some of my game ideas take place in. In this universe, long ago, nanotechnology went haywire. Nanobots started communicating like cells in a body, forming intelligent "clouds" capable of great destruction. These new "lifeforms" started multiplying, and slowly consumed the entire known universe. However, at some point, immense "clouds" known as Skystars began to appear, and they started to construct new worlds. Their worlds. And these worlds they populated with their own creations, the Golems. Beings of earth and stone, animated by nanobots.

Man, am I proud of that or what!

On to my game ideas!

Game #1:
A metroid-vania game where you play as a young mages apprentice, swinging your staff and casting powerful magic, with a big world to explore, full of items, spells and secrets to find. The backstory is that the apprentice and his master attempted and failed at casting a powerful teleportation spell, that instead sent them into the (very) distant future, into one of the Skystar worlds. There they meet the friendly population of stone golems, that has heard of their arrival in prophecy. Now they must save the Skystar, which is loosing it's power to an unknown evil, as it's their only chance at getting back home.

Game #2:
Another metroid-vania-ish game, with a Dead Space-like upgrade system. It takes place during the consuming of the universe. You play as a robot that has been sent into the "grey zone" to explore the strange anomalies found within, and there you run into the Skystars and the new worlds being created.
That's all I've got for this one. It's not completely fleshed out yet as you can see.

Game #3:
Sort of a castlevania clone, where you have switchable main weapons instead of sub weapons, possibly with experience, leveling and skill trees. I don't have any kind of backstory or goal for this game yet, I just like the idea.

Game #4:
I'd like to make a retro dungeon crawler-type game. As in Atari2600 type retro. Not much of an idea, just something I think I'd enjoy working on. Lots of room for someone to expand on.

That's it for now.

I've been talking to Peeeeeeeeej and we're considering a simple project to get started with, nothing decided yet though, but we're hoping YOU will join us to make some awesome games! Yes, you! You heard me!

Hope you guys can group together. It would be interesting to see what you can come up with The first game idea sounds like a fun project. Have you started an engine already?

Peeeeeej and I have been working on a small project, but it's been at a stand-still for a while now with little communication between us. I've got an engine in the works, however my motivation is at a low point right now. It always comes back though, sooner or later. Not likely in a while since I get Rage tomorrow! Oh well.

The game we are working on is an alien shooter platformer similar to the old DOS game Abuse. Having some trouble with the Move Safely Object though, resulting in strange alien behavior. Should probably try out the PMO instead. When I get around to it.

As for game idea #1, I'd love to make that one in my Java game engine I'm working on, but the engine probably won't be finished for a while still. Engine programming is hard.

I can halp! maybe. Clearly I haven't been very self motivated lately so I figure this is probably the sort of thing I need to do to get the old brainamabob up and moving again.

I know nothing of Java but I can do anything klik related (except music).
