I think there are a lot of unpopular games that you think are great. Why not let everyone know about this game. "Spread the love, man."
Akumajao Densetsu[NES]- The Japanese version of Castlevania 3. It is easier, Grant uses a throwing dagger instead of a stabbing dagger. Since all US games could only use the Nintendo sound chip, the music was not as good. Listen to the music with Konami's VCR7 chip. It's almost SNES quality.
Shadow of the Ninja[NES]- Has everything that you could want in an action platformer. Okay, that's a lie, but the music is great, there is a two player mode (with different looking characters!), The graphics are good, you can hang underneath platforms (the swinging-up animation is really smooth), and there are multiple weapons. Who needs a Ninja Gaiden-class story when you've got Hayate and Kaede?
In fear of my computer freezing, I will end this post now. Please contribute!
"Pople Mail" i think it was called...something like that??? i dunno it was on SNES and it was kinda like Eternal Daughter.
Anyways, wooo that Shadow of the Ninja was uber ownage, if only i had played it back in the days of ninja gaiden...then i could give a fair comparison...can't ever beat ninja gaiden in my eyes tho...
Dave, Pople Mail is the SNES version. There is a Sega CD version, called Popful Mail, and I've heard that it's very hard. And it's like Eternal Daughter.
I wish Nintendo didn't force companies to use the Nintendo chip in American carts. The VCR7 can produce very nice music. There is a game on the NES called Last Armageddon that has SNES qulaity graphics and sound, but it's in Japanese.
Contra Force[NES]- A poor Contra game, but a good game on in it's own right.
Gryzor[NES]- The Japanese version of Contra. It actually has a story ingame.
Firestriker[SNES]- A sort of Breakout-RPG. It has some kind of charm that makes it better than a standard breakout game. The bird guy is the best!
Alisia Dragoon[Genesis]- An excellent Game Arts platformer. The monsters are fun to try out.
SD Snatcher[MSX]- This is an RPG version of the excellent digital comic Snatcher (by none other than Hideo Kojima). Lots of guns, and a neato battle system that lets you target specific areas of the enemy.
Snatcher[MSX,PC-E/TG16,Sega CD]- The atmosphere of Blade Runner, but with a Japanese touch. Has fun lightgun sections.
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)- This game is VERY reminescent of the Zelda series, but received no such credit. It had a huge world, dungeons, multiple characters to play as, new weapons and items to get, you fought with a sword/pipe/knife/fan. Very zelda-ish in the way new abilities and weapons unlock new areas.
Goemon's Great Adventure (N64)- The "sequal" bears little resemblance to the previous N64 version- but it's still GREAT. It's a 2D sidescroller, and is kind of old school the way you travel from the left of the level to the right. HERE'S THE KICKER! It's two player! Some of the most video gaming fun I've had is conquering the levels in Goemon with one of my friends. The game is also VERY challenging- and thus very satisfying to beat.
Chameleon Twist and Chameleon Twist 2 (N64)- These games incorperated what too many games today lack- a NEW movement engine! It was a 3D platformer, and your character could stick out their tongue. You'd move the tongue around as it moved outwards. As it stuck to something you could hold the tongue button and you'd be pulled towards it. When you died you didn't have to restart the entire level- which is a plus in my book- and adds replay value simply because once you've beaten a level you haven't played it 30 times yet. You have to try it to see for yourself.
Mischief Makers (N64)- This is a 2D sidescroller with an anime-style story and characters. Your character could run, jump, and do a short jet burst in and direction. You could also grab and carry stuff, and 'shake' stuff you're holding. (I'll never forget the "shake! shake!" sound) The levels are challenging and fun. Some are quick-paced, some are puzzlish, and some are a total break from the action. Just a really great platformer.
Super Magnetic Neo (DC)- The Super Magnetic Neo demo is what made me want to buy the Dreamcast. Basically you're a magnetic guy that can emit positive and negative energy. In the levels, there might be a pad that's positively charged. Stand on it, press the button to emit positive energy, and the "opposites attract" rule will come into play bouncing you high in the air. The challenge levels, IMO, are the best part of the game. Don't let it's kiddy look or it's pink CD fool you- this game is CHALLENGING AS HELL. I'm probably halfway through the main game and the level I'm on is SO DAMN HARD!
Kid Kool (NES)- A mario-esque platformer where you play as Kid Kool, and you have this little furry guy you can throw at enemies to kill them. It's one of those games you'll die over and over again in and want to keep on trying. Me and my friend have managed to get to the last level of this game but we STILL haven't beaten it after burning 40+ lives there. Good old school fun.
That's just about all I can think of right now. These are all some of my favorite games and I'm pissed that some (the N64 ones, in particular) got bad reviews and that they were not recognized for their greatness.
Oh and I must say that
3D ISN'T BETTER! IT'S JUST DIFFERENT!

Why's there a star next to the Sig? What if I don't want a sig? This sucks.
I agree with every N64 game you just said KlikFactory! The Goemon games were awesome! I loved Chameleon Twist and Mischief Makers is one of my favorite N64 games.
Yeah Bob, I was really pissed at the reviews they got. I believe they mostly got around 7s, which is mediocre in the video game world. I think the Chameleon Twist games got 5.somethings. Really lame.

This game sucks. Everything is ripped. Either you are lying, or there are THOUSANDS of idiots out there.

Yeah you said that about my game in the comments.
I fixed the bugs and it's now totally playable (you can shoot now ), so I'd appreciate if you try it again. Everything isn't ripped and I think you'll enjoy the old-school style action.

mystical ninja on n64 owned!!! i loved it!!! moving right along...
a fairly mediocre game but i still ove it anyways..."GUNPLE"!!! it was too good, on the snes it was a blatant zelda rip off in the gfx department but in gameplay it was something else...
oh yeh AND
there was a snes beat'em up called gangster or something??? i really liked it, very cool gfx and the story look cool but it was in japanese
Go Gunple! That game is awesome! Funny, too. You can get the english version called Gunman's Proof with a patch from AGTP.
Getsufuu Maden[NES]- Excellent platform/rpg from Konami. Explore on an overhead map and fight in sidescrolling levels, like Zelda 2, but with Castlevanian atmosphere.
Run Saber[SNES]- A Strider clone by Atlus. Can play a two player mode. You can attack in every stance in some way, from a spinning fireball jump to a downwards kick. You can dash while walking and hanging on platforms and ceilings. Cool bosses, too.
Majyuuou(King of Demons)[SNES]- Dark gothic atmosphere, similar to Castlevania, but in hell. You can change into a monster after beating a level. Using the gun as a human is fun as heck.
I'm the Chef: This import for the original Playstation is awesome...its like Iron Chef in a game. You can cut onions and such up and make a soup, or poor a beer. And people rob your restaurant and you have to chase them, and you have to squash bugs and wash dishes, its great.
The Busy World of Richard Scary: This is a kids game but its cool, its for Sega Genesis and you paint ships and put out fires, and fly kites, it sounds boring, but it passes the time.

Duck Hunt (NES):
a great game, even my friend whose only ever owned a Playstation loved this game. shoot ducks & clay pigeons.
California Games (SNES):
RollerSkate, Skate, Footbag, Surf, Frisby, & Bmx all in one game, compete with others, great game i loved this and i still play it ocassionally.
3D World Runner[NES]- Really fun game, 3D platformer for Nintendo?!
Tomba![PSX]- Very good platform game for PSX, run around achieving many quests, so much fun.
Can't think of others right now. Run Saber rocks! It's on the hard side though.
