God, I love this news story. It appears that a 17 year old student, who registered the domain www.mikerowesoft.com, has now had the wrath of Microsoft's lawyers unleashed upon him... full story here: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040119/152/ejsdp.html

The best thing is; if Microsoft fail to sue successfully, they will open the floodgates, as under US law (apparantly) allowing one infrignement means that their trademark can be broken again and again without fear of reprisal.

All I can say is, go Mike Rowe! Hopefully he'll be able to put Microsoft back in their place.

If I had heard that story while I was driving to work this morning I probably would have lost control over my vehicle and run right into a street light and crashed with a huge explosion. (Aka this is messed up and way out of line for anyone, especially Microsoft >< )

I hope they realize how many other name spoofs there are out there in the world that are very similar to or like other popular names.

How about Kirby, or otherwise known before hand as Kirby Vacuum Cleaner?

Most humans are idiots. The government includes half of those idiots. Lol!

It's pretty retarded to be sued for using your own name in your own company.

Microsoft did this because they thought 'their customers may be confused'. Their 'customers' can't be that stupid, can they? ¬_¬

This reminds me of when McDonald's tried to sue McChina, a Chinese company (duh!). Problem is, McChina has no relation to any Scottish surname but means something like 'Man of China' - the translation eludes me - point is, companies are stupid and down with capitalism. Boo.

It's highly likely Microsoft will win this. They sued the makers of "Lindows" and lost but that was a different word. "Mikerowesoft" sounds like "Microsoft" so it could be considered trademark infringement. It's hard to predict what judges are going to do though.

That's business, trying to cash off of odd coincidences.

Normally I'd agree with this sorta stuff, but Mike Rowe is his name and the word "soft(ware)" is a perfectly normal word, so I don't think that they should win this...

Like this one time, my uncle did a record with some friends called Unplugged. MTV sued my uncle's band because they had some show called Unplugged as well, but lost because unplugged is an everyday word...

Oh man, I can't beleve they only offered him $10... They could just reach in to the pile and give him a little more. This is so stupid as if anyone one would misspell microsoft that badly, if there is someone that stupid they should be sued.

Well, Microsoft just dropped it. They decided it looked bad to sue a 17 year old.
