Can anyone give me tips on how to create clouds that actually look like clouds using PS 7? I really don't like what I was able to do up to now. Just take a look for yourself; it look like a big stain in the sky to me...
You *could* try the filter -> render -> clouds option ... allthough Im not sure thats what you want. Use foreground/background colors to select the colors of the rendered clouds/background.
The main problem that I see is the edge of the cloud: it's too sharp. I think it would be better if it could "melt" with the sky somehow, but I just can't seem to achieve that...
Photoshop 7 does indeed have a cloud effect. The problem though when you use the cloud effect, it looks too uniform and not enough like a real sky, real skys usually are blue with the odd cloud here and there rather. But it could be what you're looking for. And if you do use a cloud filter, it might not go with your style of graphics (which are nice by the way.) So you should do like I did for my Samuryan game sky and reduce the colours quite a lot or use the Posterize filter to reduce the colours in a cool looking way.
Another way, which would achieve the odd cloud effect is to enter the masking layer (under your two colours on the main toolbar) and use a soft edged brush with a 50% opacity to draw where you want the clouds to be, then exit the masking layer, and use the cloud effect. Then if you create a new layer via copy, and add a bevel and emboss effect with a lot of soften on it which adds depth via shading, you can get a pretty good result quickly. This is a quick example I did in about 2 minutes to demostrate...

If that is the kinda effect you want, feel free to use that image.
This is the same, with the posterize effect I said about, and a glass filter to finish it off.

Need any more Photoshop guidence, I'm the man, I know that bloody program inside out.
I really like the first set of cloud! The only thing I would need to do is to make them less blury, so they match my graphic style a bit more. A for the second one, it nice, but that's not what I'm looking for.
I'll see if I can get a similar result than the first set.
Just give us a shout, and I can help you out if you need it, dude. With the first bunch of clouds, I can easily make them less blurry. You can PM me if you want.
Cool man, I'm always glad to help. If you have any trouble with anything , just say. I think Photoshop is the only program that I have 99% mastered. Photoshop can create some cool effects, whether it be game effects or film effects.
You have some cool custom graphics there by the way, keep them up. I can already see you're not a newbie to the world of click.
That robo guy is pretty casual considering he's on that ledge by like, a toe nail.
Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.
I know, but you can do the same in almost any platformer game. And anyway, the platform is actually larger than that since it's mostly covered by the cloud.
Hmm... maybe I'll write those series of tutorials on Photoshop soon enough. You can do practically anything with Photoshop. Just get some experience with the cloud filter, blurring, lighting effects, layer effects, and most importantly, layers. I could make some nice looking swords in just half an hour.
If you wanna do some image editing, Worth 1000 (worth1000.com) is a good place to learn and watch. I've done some very realistic hoaxes back in high school, including editing exam grades and pictures with me and uh... other people .
