Drill bits looks like its comming along pretty good. I think it needs background though. Maybe some darker larger blocks or a mixture of larger and small to build up a background.
I don't get what you're saying. Do you mean the ground that the character walks on? The method I use for the drilling involves pasting a solid object into the background, but I might be able to give a liiiiiittle bit of variation.
