Good News, Bad News...
Posted 24th Apr 09, by Jon Lambert
Good news: I'm making two new power-ups for New Super Mario Land, one of which is sure to get in the game. In addition, I'm adding a hiding/searching ability and a weather system to Baby Ghost. Guess what else? It gets to keep its small graphics.

Bad news: I really don't know what to do with this project. Really. I thought I had it all figured out, and then apparently I didn't, and now I don't know what to do again, so... Someone else want to join and manage it for a while as I try to figure it out? Maybe you'll end up figuring it out... Anyway, the current idea is a short arcade game with timed levels. The picture can be seen in the devlog.

there could be a million reasons why people dont want to work on this project, but you being confused about it doesnt really help the matter. if youre in charge of the project and you dont got it figured out, then most other people are going to feel the same.

rather than ask the people "what do you want", which is very vauge, and if they had the choice to do whatever they wanted (without risking creative differances) theyd go an make their own project. so a better idea might be to come up with your own idea, and ask "what do you want... to add." that might make the community feel this project is less of a burden and more of their chance to add just a little something, even if it is just a little.

the problem is that this doesnt have to be "THE" community project. it can just be "A" community project, for insance "The TDC Community Project pt. 1: your title here".

oh yeah, and theres the time difference aswell. i have 4 other people working with me on this project so far, 1 is from turkey, 1 is from croatia, 1 is from california and i didnt even ask the other one where hes from because hes online all the time. usually the ones from croatia and turkey are on when i fall asleep, so that might be a factor as well in them wanting to participate, they might feel they wont get a chance to get anything in when the majority are on the clock, or vise versa if most are from half way around the globe from you, they might feel they will be getting the majority of the work.

I think allowing creative input on the core of the game was a bad idea. Everyone wants to make it their baby.
