I'm not sure if I mentioned this yet, but a few of the monsters and scenery items in FableQuest were originally built using Spore, a simulation/strategy game made by Maxis. While Spore alone is a fantastic game, its real charm comes from its in-depth creation tools that let you make virtually any kind of creature, building, vehicle, and scenery item you can imagine.
Anyway, by using Spore's creation tools, I can come up with buildings and monsters much more quickly than usual, which comes in handy if I'm not sure how to draw something and get stuck. What I do, essentially, is take a screenshot of the monster/building in Spore, use Photoshop to dumb down the colors, and finally, transfer it to MMF2's picture editor for tweaking and polishing. It's a fairly long and involved process, so I only do it as a last resort when I have absolutely NO idea how to draw something on my own.
So, I've been having a bit of trouble thinking about how to draw the entrance to the game's third dungeon - the Solar Temple. After itching my head over it for days, and after many failed attempts at drawing something from scratch in MMF'2 picture editor, I finally decided to use Spore to help me out. You can see the results in the screenshots I've attached. The first image is from Spore's building editor, and the second image is the temple as it's seen in the game. I haven't yet finished the bottom half, which is why only the top half is shown in the picture.
Once again, Spore saves the project from an architectural stalemate. <3
