About 70% of the art is finished. All the characters and animations are finished, all the backgrounds, the only thing left really is menus, effects and a few maps.
I've provided some screenshots of some of the backgrounds for the battle mode. Each area will feature a random base, background and a vast amount of random cover objects to hide behind (so you don't get shot! Oh no!)
I've also provided a look at some of the weapons that will be featured in the game! Each one is already fully animated and ready to kill your friends!
The sprites for this game aren't as extensive as my other games but that's for two reasons.
1) It always helps performance to not jam pack the game with too much animation.
2) I set up the sprites to be jointed, so rather than having to do several animations for shooting, shoot walk, shoot duck, ect, the body moves independantly from the legs.
Currently as far as programming is concerned, we've got the map set up, it tints to the player color, you can issue orders, end your turns, ect. As far as the battles are concerned, you are able to walk jump shoot, and the battlefield is set up and looping. Once we get a bit more of the gameplay done, I'll be providing a video for you all to see the magic that is happening 'round back.
I had a friend that had a copy of friendly strike 2 a while back, I had no idea it was a click game. No, from what I remember, friendly strike was more of a counter strike clone, no strategy elements, like this one.
As far as not having an Xbox 360, you can pick up one of the old ones for about $150, if you shop around. It's an excellent commodoty to have as an independant developer to get some of your work out there and make money off of it, especially since everything you need to get on it is 100% free, unlike developing for wiiware or playstation network.
Be forwarned, the audience for indie games has zero taste, which explains why sniper defense is beating out explosionade in sales. I don't have a problem with that, seeing as how I'm making money off of sniper defense, so it's all good. Comment edited by HorrendousGames on 10/11/2010
Local yes, online, perhaps. It's not a major necessity in my opinion, since for xbox live indie games it's a rarely used feature, mostly due to the fact that Microsoft charges for their online play (lame). I know it's only $50 for the year, but some of us don't have the $50. But a good thing to point out is that Ronnie does have expirience with networking and online play, so if we've got time, we might as well add it in.
I thought i commented on this earlier...? this looks sweet though, great to see some quite stunning looking projects appear on TDC that are something other than Klik. I'm keen to see this develop!
