so i was thinking about how i could make each character have some sort of skills or attacks they could use at any time, so this is the idea i came up with.
So throughout the game you will be able to collect "cards" there will probably be a collection of close to 100 different cards. each card will contain a different attack, or buff. you will be able to assign 3 cards from the start of the game, but that may grow later. each equipped card will be set to a certain key (probably A- D). some cards will be simple attacks like Fireball or Tsunami, etc. other rarer cards will be more powerful, such as a summon or more powerful versions of previous cards. each card will have a set cooldown time before it can be reused. im going to try and avoid putting in a "Magic gauge" simply because i dont want the Hud [Heads Up Display] getting cluttered with too many bars, like the health bar and the ammo bar.
Here are the different classes for cards ive come up with so far.
Attack Card: A strait up attack, each card will act differently. you may have as many as you want equipped.
Buff Card: A card that increases a stat in some way shape or form. [includes healing cards, defensive cards etc] you may have as many as you want equipped.
Summon Card: These cards will call forth large beasts to aid you in your fight, they will generally effect all enemies on the screen, rather than the attack cards only effecting 1 - 3 enemies, also summons are much more powerful. you can only have 1 summon card equipped at a time from the start, you may be able to increase this amount somehow later in the game.
Active Card: An active card Generally calls forth an object, such as calling in cover, or a reflector. you may only have 2 of these equipped at 1 time.
Other: Anything that doesnt fit into the other categories goes here, if there turns out to be any of those.
