I was toying with the idea of releasing this game level by level as their done in a Sam & Max episodic way. The way I'm designing the game, every level has a unique character with their own story but it also continues a larger overarching story. The player would still have to beat each level with its "Good Karma" ending in order to move on. Has this been done with a click product before? Can anyone think of any difficulties I could run into doing something like this? I'm still relatively new to MMF2.
I've been thinking of the same concept for a few years now, I figured it's not something good for me because the moment I'd release one episode I'd be too lazy to work on another.
But yeah, I think such a thing would be great, as long as each episode still has a decent length (there are already too few click games that need more than a couple of hours to complete).
On the technical aspect I can't think of any real difficulties doing something like that, and you have several possible approaches.
You can have one save file for several applications, and if the save doesn't have a record of you finishing episode 1, you can't start episode 2.
You can also have one application and constantly release patches that expand the game. That is personally my favorite, I think it gives the whole thing a more polished look.
I think I had another idea but it skipped my mind at the moment.
