TGF - 3d engine (open source)

The best 3d engine you can make on TGF. It's free and "open source". It should be interesting to make a game with it. It's not super defined in some secondary elements but the 3d effect is sure and you can make maps as large as you want. It's by "ZipGames" and "VCGroup". Enjoy it!

"Tab" to see the map.
Z/x: strafe.
Arrows: movement
Ctrl: fire.
Shift: Jump
A-Q: to see up or down.

Interesting...althought the movement is a bit twisted...

Posted by ben_02 15th May, 2002

Very interesting! What are the chances of you smoothening it out by using thinner objects? This could actually be made a decent game.

Posted by skn3 16th May, 2002

it makes me feel ill nice effort in TGF tho. But if you want 3D i suggest learning blitz or jama

Posted by Sumez 16th May, 2002

Nicely done, but done many times before. The raycasting method is wrong, though, notice the "fish eye"'y naure of it. And yeah, it's possible to smoothen it out by using thinner objects, of course that would make it even slower in TGF. Also notice the latency when you move, it's possible to make it much better using the instant loop object. Nice try, but no cigar.

Thanks for your comments. I guess that, on TGF, you can make still a little better (increasing the number of active objects and decreasing the resolution) but not that much. It requires a little to make it perfect for a game, I would suggest an RPG. I won't do it but you are free to try it.

ewww, i feel sick!

SCREW YOU JASON ORME! Nice tutorial!

Posted by Haik 10th August, 2002

Sorry, but this isnīt the best you can make. Actually itīs very bad. Raycasting isnīt real 3D.

Posted by Dave Lloyd 17th August, 2002

Don't mock anyone who has tried, it is nearly impossible to perfect in TGF and if it makes you feel sick then dont play it :-)

Posted by Alex Scobell 24th August, 2002

Yes I agree with Ben thinner objects would make it smoother. Pretty good effort! I'm not sure if I'll use it though, maybe.

Wow! thats a great 3D effect for GF, but I think i'll stick to MMF.

Posted by Claudio Mondello 30th August, 2002

Sure! With MMF you can make a far better one. try it! Good Luck!!!

Posted by 2nd September, 2002

I like it considering that TGF is free and MMF is 300 dollars US. I mean please... I can buy a PS2 and then some games for that much. Fucking A!

Posted by 6sicks6 4th September, 2002

300 $? ITs like 75 or something!!!

Posted by Klik fan 15th September, 2002

TGF is free now??MMF is also a hell of a lot cheaper. Oh well....;)

Posted by alee 17th September, 2002

tgf is for download now but mmf does NOT COST $300 you fool

this game makes you kinda puke cause the grafix suck it has a wierd kind of first person shooter crap and you have a gun but no monsters kinda sucks if you know what i mean

;-)I like these kind of stuff!!! The first thing that interest me of making games is making 3d games. I started on tgf so I could do 3d. At that time I didn't knew that there was jamagic. I did not know how to create 3d kind of games. But I still like 3d now and then.

Didn't know this was possible w/TGF :) Is it possible to add items/enemies to this?

Sweet!! I can tell A LOT of work has gone into this. 3D made w/TGF, how neato! Oh and, X-Member1037, even if MMF is $300 I would prefer it over PS2 and some games. I guess that just shows how addicted I am to game making. :)

TGF isn't free, and MMF Standard is $99 and you can save about $50 if you upgrade from TGF :P

Crystal Clear (H.E.S), actually this is NOT real 3D. As the name implies 3D = 3 dimensions. In TGF you can ONLY work in 2 dimensions. But you can how ever make a fake 3D simulation. By layering and position in 2D you can do something that looks a bit like 3D. Considering that, this attempt is quite well done. The objects are a bit too thick to look smooth enough to be satisfying and the perspective is a bit strange. Especially corners do at certain angles look as if there is a road over there and not a corner. Also one should be able to walk just a bit closer to the walls. But considering the limitations of TGF this is after all a very good attempt indeed :D

"True 3D" You make me laugh. A computer can't achieve 3D no matter what you do with it. It's still being projected onto a 2D screen. A 3D game is merely using calculations to create the "illusion" of depth- fake 3D.

yes

Posted by FierceDeity 2nd July, 2003

Its a cool 3d engine. i bet it took hell of a long code.

Posted by Greg MacInnis 14th December, 2003

Give em a break, you all must remember Duke Nukem 3d, its the same thing... I havent tried it yet, but it sounds right.

Woow Nice engine ;) Love it when 1 single person with some free time lets big time profesionals look like fools :D (ok, that only count's for the quake time) Doesn't wolfenstein 3d work exactly the same way? I wondered hours how wolfenstein 3d works until i saw this game :P

amazing

Posted by Mruqe 18th June, 2006

If you can't make it look and work decent, than what is the point of making it at all?

Posted by vrba79 22nd March, 2007

If it was smoothed out, and tweaked this could have made an awesome TPS engine!

it's wack, use fastloop to make those weird blocky thing go away and it will make it fresh, may lag a bit, to avoid "fish eye" effect, drop 8 more "cast lines" if you will.

Other than that, it's pretty wack.
