Quiz games, everybody loves those, right? Ehm, well not too many of those sort of games present here at TDC I guess, so I thought to make a quick one to boost this genre just a bit...so let's see how it goes.
The Wikipedia Challenge is a weird little quiz game where you will face hundreds of questions about virtually anything. Browse Wikipedia and search for answers to these riddles and gain WikiRank. Compare your results to those of your friends and other players online. All answers can be found from Wikipedia. Good search! Questions are presented in chains. Each chain can contain 3-8 questions. The next question in line always relates to the answer of the previous question - but not necessarily any of the other preceding questions. A chain starts with one topic but usually ends up with something totally different.
More info available in the game itself...
Features in brief:
- Unique quiz game
- Hundreds of questions, ranging from very easy to nearly impossible
- WikiRank global Hall Of Fame of players, challenge your friends for a competition
The game requires an internet connection, minimum of 1024x768 resolution, and capability of running Internet Explorer ActiveX component.
It's the very first version of the game put together quite fast, so if you noticed anything weird, like crashing or something with the points, please let me know..thanks!
Update: v1.01 is updated to the same download link, it fixes one small but very irritating bug. You need to re-download if you have v1.00 and want to submit your results to high scores.
im all for quiz games. but including a searcheable wikipedia page for each chain seems a bit counter productive. whats the point of a quiz game if you have all the answers?
seems more like gradeschool busywork to me. (perhaps you could sell it to grade schools for them to use )
very nice presentation and concept though. just dont think it works very well.
I know, it's more like a search game really than a typical quiz game. You will noticed it from the questions when you proceed, they will get quite different to usual quiz questions. Even if all answers are basically available in the browser window, the game is extremely difficult to beat.
@OMC, it's just a basic system where the game loads questions from a database... I was first planning for a system where each user could upload new questions, but quality control would be an issue so..
Thanks for the comments and ideas, keep them coming.
this is pretty good, but some questions are worded a bit strange. There is obviously a limit to the number of questions available. What happens once someone finishes them all? You should add a list on your website which you can update allowing users to randomly pick a file from the list to download which has some new questions to answer. you can even allow people to upload their own questions and answers etc. This would make the game much more replayable and would possibly even open the doors for you to have some sort of advertiser and generate income from this.
There is a lot of potential.
How it works is that the game receives the latest questions automatically from the database. Since the release, there's already been like 25 questions added to it. We've had some enthusiastic players playing the game for 1-2 weeks now, but no one has yet solved all 400 questions available at the moment (390 is the record).
Ability for users to make questions is easily implemented, but I decided to leave it out of the plans due to quality control issues, but might include it at some stage. More likely the "group of editors" will grow, but not all users will be able to submit new questions, simply because it will become a mess in that scenario.
Regarding the wording in questions, it would be beneficial if you could PM me your suggestions? I could then update the questions in the db and all users would automatically see the revised content.
