I am building a beat them all ( like double dragon , final fight, Streets of rage etc...).
I have a serious problem , when 2 characters are overlapping each other i can easily bring to front the character who is lower than the other .

When several sprites are overlapping , i may have this problem.

Have you tried adding
Enemy overlapping enemy + EnemyY > EnemyY -- Bring Enemy to back
It's a really, really spotty event for those of you who know better, but it does sometimes work.
The only other way I could think of was to build an ID tagging system in Fastloops.
Craps, I'm an old man!

Layer Extension, It automatically orders your objects by Y axis, X axis or alterable value.

Thanks very much for yours posts
Shabadage : your solution is the one i used first but it's not effective when more than 2 objects are overlapping each other.
Radix : your foregrounding tutorial is very good .
