What do you think were the best ideas people ever put in games?
To me...
Action/shooters:
Headshots
Manhunt-style sneaking (would be even better if it were in a multiplayer game)
Carefully timed fighting, like in the old Prince of Persia games, which aren't a feature of the shiny new ones anymore
Strategy:
The way some games are NOT being based on the rock-paper-scissors concept, but still using it. E.g. cavalry doesn't do bonus damage to archers, but still beat them because they can catch up and have stronger weapons. Bonus damages are annoying.
Upgradable stats, but not to point where one hero can kill 20 expensive units without healing.
Unreliability (somewhat random damage & hitting), ala Age of Wonders.
Buying stocks in the enemy, ala Capitalism
Turn-based games where the deadliest creatures would pop out from hidden crevices and leave you praying that they'd run out of time units before they reach your characters (e.g. those Tentaculats/Lobstermen with sonic cannons in X-Com 2)
Being able to take out an enemy out part-by-part, ala Titans of Steel.

Any badly coded effects that slow the computer to the point your cursor lags don't count .
