Uh, I don't use XP so this is half a guess, but I stumbled across the likely option while fixing a friend's machine the other day. Check under Control Panel -> System -> Advanced and look for the option to turn of graphical effects. Under Performance Options, I think.

safari even AAs the outline of pixel art and totally ruins it. it sees the transparency of the gif/png and calculates the aa between the pixel art and for instance the background colour the forum it was posted on
