I know that making games is what we do, and thats why we do it. but does anyone ever start up MMF and sit back and do nothing and then shut it down, Knowing full well how much work has to be done.
Im really starting to annoy myself, Im making a game and i know its gonna be good. but everyday i think of somthing better and it makes me want to stop making it and start somthing else. I already have like 8 games half made and now i have 2 new ideas. anyone got any words of wisdom for me?

I feel your pain, I've abandoned at least 20 apps, I only finish them is it's easy to make or if I can't think of anything better to do. I think a lot of people are having the same problems, we want to make an awsome game but we don't want to do the work, or we want to work on another game. If anybody has some magical solution, PLEASE TELL US.

I think that is kind of like a freeware makers curse. In the end, what you work on, if it's going to be free, the only thing you earn from making the game is experience and the hope that somebody enjoys your game. However, there is a solution to it, when you think of a game, you need to adapt it so it's going to be something that your going to constantly enjoy making. You also need to make sure its open to suggestions, so that when that next great game idea pops into your head, instead of stopping your game to make another one, you incorporate what you wanted to do in that game, into the game you are working on. Then you can keep doing that, till you finish your game and release it.

I have the same problem. In fact, i've never finished a game and i started out with KnP 9 years ago.

I haven't tried it fully yet, but i think a solution might be to plan properly. Don't jump into making the game immediately. Try writing a sort of manuscript detailing the story, enemies, powerups, powers etc. Then make the game.

Another thing is that when we make a game, the usual drill for a TGF/MMF/Whatever user is to have to make everything yourself. I consider myself as being decent at making graphics, but i have very high demands for myself and i imagine that might be an obstacle for me. So maybe another helpful thing would be to involve others into your project (if you have things carefully planned out, as described just before, people might be easier persuaded into helping).

Release a demo or preview or something once you've got the basic idea working - that way, you'll hopefully be encouraged to continue. My latest project's looking a bit dangerous at the moment, but it should be worth it if I can think up 40 more rooms.

It's a bit annoying. But after a while, at least I've found that only your best projects will become finished. whilst working on Sam and Titan Omega I've been tinkering away on that Madventures RPG and have had a load of better ideas. even ideas that tell me to scrap the new Sam and start again.

Suppose the best thing to do is just work on a project that you get really excited about. when Roman emailed me saying "forget Sam 2, finish the first game" I just took a step back and realised thats the best thing ever. For about half an hour later a million ideas flooded in. When you're so dedicated and excited about a project that you steal your parents laptop PC away to your room for 9 months whilst you bazz around on MMF.

my problem now is releasing the game. ive finished all of it but I keep looking back saying "well, another level here won't hurt anyone". suppose we all just need to get a grip

I don't start projects that will take more than a day or two to finish, because I don't have time. I make plans and engines for possible large future projects, but unless I'm super-motivated or trying something new I don't normally go any further than that.
