I like to use a lot of shifting meter and unusual time signatures (11/8 and 13/8, for instance) and modal mixture. Going for an energetic rock feel. The value of the eighth note is constant, which means it SOUNDS like the song's tempo is changing when it's actually just the meter. The first measure (which is mostly there to facilitate looping, but I liked it when I added it) is in 12/8. The next time change is 4/4, which causes the tempo to sound like it's going faster. Then, we go into 11/8. In terms of eighth notes, the beats are like this (X = downbeats, x = upbeats): Xxx Xxx Xxx Xx Every four measures, we change into 13/8 for a measure, which goes like this: Xxx Xxx Xxx Xx Xx We move back into 12/8 for the chordal/guitar solo sections. Xxx Xxx Xxx Xxx If wishes were fishes then we'd all smell like ladies' underwear.
