Sorry for doing this AGAIN but if you have a Wii, and haven't noticed the blue light flashing, then update, update, update!
... But do you really want to?!
Reason:
It seems it's a new version of the photo channel, basically all it does it disables the ability to use MP3's and enables AAC playback in it's place. Is this good news?!
Also, you can now buy Virtual Console games as presents and send them to your friends on the Wii Message Board.
Does anyone play MP3s on their Wii anyway? Regarding AAC playback, am I the only one suspecting Nintendo and Apple making a deal to launch iTunes on Wii? WiiTunes?
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Apple are champions of the AAC format because it supports DRM, but it wasn't made by Apple (The Creative Zen and Zune also support AAC.) AAC is different to "Apple lossless" format. I'd also like to see Apple and Nintendo working together, but I don't think this is any indication of it about to happen.
I wonder why they couldn't just add AAC compatibility alongside mp3.. probably something to do with mp3 licensing laws.
Apparently they are replacing the Wii adverts with DS adverts on telly in the UK because the demand for a Wii is already so high and there are no stocks

I have never heard of the AAC format, but it sucks that MP3 support is simply removed.
Bitrate to bitrate, AAC is the dogs bollocks compared to MP3. Them fine chaps at Dolby made it.
There has been speculation of an Apple/Nintendo join up before. What Quicktime video support on the Photo Channel, they must have had at least 1 meeting together for that to happen. Nothing will ever happen. People liken them to each other with their (well, for Nintendo) previously minor marketshares with similar design philosophies, and recently similar markets.
Apple are more likely to partner with Sony though. They've got a close connection.
Is this the update that lets you pick a background picture for the menu?

Not that I know of. To be honest, I had forgotten very quickly that you could do that in the Photo Channel. How do you do it anyway?

Unsure about that one, Doctor. It did mention something about photos but I didn't pay much attention. I was looking out for that feature though so I don't think it's included... Yet.
Upgraded!
I have coded a Home Video system for the Wii with Flash (Yes, Flash ) and PHP which gets the videos and songs from the WLAN. So I don't really care if I can hear MP3s in the Photo Channel.
