Not interested in Klik any more, it's all a giant waste of time. No money, no appreciation, barely any play the games you produce and the sheer amount of time it takes to make games just isn't worth it. Trying to handle a full-time job whilst making a klik game? It'd take all of any spare time you'd ever have.
That as well as getting a decent artist to help you make your games, or working with anyone to help you in areas you lack in game creation is just extremely rare, and so many people give up and abandon things... there's just no incentive any more.
I think around 80%-90% of all the decent games released were made by just one person - those rare few that are talented artists, coders and musicians etc.
I'm not sure what will happen with SilverNova yet. I might just resign in a few months time and leave it all up to Ben or whatever, and he can do what he wants with it. I'm not sure. It's a shame because the site his a regular influx of visitors still, even though I barely update it these days... and it's quite popular with the public and search engines...
Also, this community is dead now. There's just about 7 or so people that have been here since the start and a hand-full of new ones keeping this community alive. It's nothing LIKE what it used to be. Really good games might get 50 downloads if you're lucky now.. and every other game gets about 4 or so.. up to about 15 ish.
What's the point? I no longer have the drive or enthusiasm I once had. I visit here infrequently to look at the news, which is generally just another boring game. So... yeah. Those are (briefly) my main reasons for leaving this community... it's been great while it lasted guys. See ya around!
Fair doos, doesn't feel much different to me. It's just other sites popped up and people fled to them seeking a bigger audience.
Dunno what else to say really. I still find making games fun especially when you see it all in action at the end. If you've lost the spark or whatever then... Go find it?
I guess it's kind of like model building. You spend ages slaving away over your work, by the time it's finished you're proud of it. You show it to people and they think it's cool for about 10 seconds before getting bored of it.
"Dunno what else to say really. I still find making games fun especially when you see it all in action at the end. If you've lost the spark or whatever then... Go find it? "
I agree, I don't know how people can just give up making games.
I mean, the chance and ability to make decent, playable games isn't common. If you ask me (which you probably don't) I say try a different community. They're all so different, I visit CT and Tig source more than I ever used to, and they have totally different members, who don't accept anything that goes on at TDC like the spamming and attacks.
As for making decent gfx, you're being silly. You can make photoshop gfx, you do it all the time when making site designs, there is no excuse for you not to provide decent photoshop gfx for a game.
I don't think you're trying hard enough Timothy You've not shown me many of your attempts to make a game (I start and abandon several projects weekly , yet never give in like this), Ive seen about... 1 or 2 of your projects you've been working on, so you can hardly say you've tried that hard, perhaps start a small project with photoshop gfx.
Yeah I hate that! People just don't undersatnd the amount of work and time that goes into making a game. But I guess you can't really expect them to. I think making games is fun, I don't really care if I don't get any money from it, but I have to agree with the "no appreciation" thing. Even if you make a game good enough to get GOTW, people forget about it in a month or so. It does seem a bit pointless sometimes.
You can log off any time you like, but you can't ever leave.
Sorry to see you 'leave'.
We all have patches like this though, where we can't find the time or want to make games. It's not a waste of time at all, even if it feels like it. I'm pretty sure you'll come back in a few months or so and carry on making games, even if you feel you won't be at the moment (at least I hope so, anyway).
If anything, I think the community has picked up quite a bit compared to a couple of months ago. Things are quieting down now due to exams and such (for me anyway).
Anyway I disagree with some of the points you made, but I guess you can't help the way you feel.
Hope SilverNova doesn't die, and hope you decide to stay/carry on making games.
Indeed. Makes me see the sense in all the "banned Phizzy" comments everywhere. I don't know if you have the same passion that I do for making games, Tim, but I agree with Flava-- we've all had shlumps. I'm planning on making a career out of game development, and I don't expect it to be smooth all the way thorugh, but there'll be people like the TDCers for those parts...
I think we all go trough a period like this Tim. And that's ok, just do a search and find my 3 i'm going to leave forever news posts. Thing is for a lot of people this community is creapy in the way that it keeps pulling you back in.
I do not think the community is dead at all, more alive then it has been for a while now. I have been trying to do my part with the news updates and klikcast. The thing is it all comes down to perspective, for people that do not know clickteam is doing its best to promote mmf 2 to lots of people out there by showing it at all these conferences. They have been doing so for a couple of months now and i'm sure it is going to pay off.
It comes down to if you still enjoy making a game/site etc because in the end you should not make the game for others but yourself, if you have a good time and other folks enjoy it to then thats a good bonus but you need to have fun with it first no mather how the game turns out.
I hope you will come back to us after this period tim, we will be here keeping things going. "If you build it, people will come, if not right away, they will in time"
I know how it is like to be in your situation however but you will find time, i have a full time job and 2 kids, i normally update this site either when both of my kids are eating, or at night when they are off to bed, right now they are eating, lol Should i spend this time doing something else maybe maybe not. For now i found my jazz if you will.
My point is you might be focused in one direction but keep in touch and we will welcome you back on your return this community has so many creative people in it, it is very inspiring indeed.

I came to this point a while back, i stopped klicking for about 6 months. Ive been klicking for years and have never finished a project. But then one day i woke up and thought about my life. This is a major part of my life. Some people play football, some people are into films, we are all game designers.
People dont kiss arse here which is what i like about TDC, but they do appreciate the time and effort people put into their work, i surely do and i know most other people do. The problem with achieving the "Classics" ranking like the orginal klickres (Eternal Daughter etc) is that they where above and beyond what was expected from them at the time. Its much the same with the modern day commercial games companies, No matter how hard they try, the classic games will privale in nearly all indie gamers hearts and minds. People expect more from klickers today, dont get me wrong, alot of games being produced here are of a very high quality nowadays but there will be a select few that will echo in the klicking hall of fame for ever and alot more games that wont. This is life.
I have to say i agree with Phizzy on this topic, fair enough your leaving, im sad to see you go, a klicker down is sad to see, but branding it " a giant waste of time" is an insult to this community.
