I've been making games since 1998 and while I don't really have any finished games to show off, I do tend to always released demo's of games that are generally well received. Unfortunatly my biggest flaw is that with them being a solo project I fail to have the motivation to continue and somtimes the coding gets alittle too much for me.
So, thats what brings me here.
After months of sitting at the computer, scribbling ideas down, doing abit of animation and the odd piece of coding I ended up with nothing and its time to put a team together to ensure somthing is getting done.
While I do enjoy working on my own projects and the perks being that its my own vision to do what I wish with it when I want. Its about time I worked with a team again.
The motivation a team gives me is fantastic, and all the little pieces of art and coding flying in from different members and all piecing together and emerging into a fantastic looking game is really what i'm looking for... so let me get to the point.
I'm looking to make a platform RPG with big explorable maps and areas, lots of treasure and loot. Monsters from the very small to the large, and great looking weapons and armor to find and purchase. Not forgetting the high-end deadly but rewarding dungeons.
Thats in the simplest form but I'm hoping with a team backing it we can add some more features including a crafting system i.e cooking, alchemy, blacksmithing etc.
I'm also hoping for characters to be customizable, i.e different hair and being able to actually wear the armor they aquire.
But for now, lets keep it simple, I wouldnt want to but too much strain and pressure on the team members, lets just stick to the overall theme, art style and basic platform/combat engine.
Of course i'm always open for suggestions and please keep in mind that this is OUR project and not just mine. I'd just really like somthing to work on.
So, thanks for reading and leave your name if your interested in joining the project so we can begin discussing it in the private forums of a project page I will soon create.
I'm just having a hard time at the moment comming up with an art style, i've tried a few different designs but have yet to find anything that looks proffesional, finished or polished.
i love maplestory but i always wished it was a singleplayer game. the experience curve is also whack. im like level 51 since i started playing. its not fun when it takes you 20 hours to get to the next level and youre only level 5x

Single Player, problem with multiplayer is that its more noticable when its dead, and when it is, no one wants to play it. Grinding is annoying in any game, if possible its somthing I want to try and prevent by making sure there are enough ways to aquire experience.

Yeah i'm still tweeking the design, my idea was to have any solid surface to have a black edge, still not certain on a art style yet.
While on the subject, are there any talented background artists who could help out.
Having real problems designing a tree (always do in every game I make).
Thanks, not sure how I aquired my style, mostly from trial and error making all ranges of different art styles for games. With every new project I make I seem to improve, but getting all my GCSE's in art probably helped to some extent. Mainly just a love for pixels.
Finally got some enemies drawn out, seem to be pretty set on the style if anyone wants to join the project and help draw, animate or code.
These enemies are for this area of the game, not certain if this is the starting area or not (probably not) but its just an example of one of the many explorable areas I plan on doing.
set up a forum for project members to communicate on this.
start a design document that can be discussed and edited over time.
i'd love to join in. not much time to do any significant drawing or coding, but id love to help get this off the ground.
The document is where you list all the features the game has to offer. For example, you'd list all the equipments it will have, or all the actions the hero will perform.
With a document, a programmer will then analyze it and come up with a rough idea to on how to code the features.
If you need forum space, I can offer you one on my site.

Kingdom Hearts fan?! Yes! I loved KH's Aerial Combos. They were just plain awesome. I'm still trying to defeat Sephiroth at level 51. >_<
Jason Orme has decided to put this project on hold until he gets his RPG Open Source done. He's deleted the original project page and everything. He's making RPG Open Source so that he can learn the RPG programming skills necessary to make this game.
