Well, I think it's a good idea with points for winning GOTW, and around 200-300 would be fair, since you don't win every time and it takes a while to make the games
i actually dont think any method of gaining points or the amount of points gained should be revealed. unless its like a prize for accomplishing something such as GOTW or a compo. this would encourage lots of spam.

I agree with Cecil there, it could encourage alot of spam, yet on the other hand, it could mean we could actually get games for GOTW.

i quickly after, posted on the front page news post that limiting the ammount of each per day would help.
its not hard to find out what gives you points and how many, but if you have a limit on how much you can get for certain things in a certain timespan, it would make spamming for points useless.
things like uploads are different though because they are filtered and moderated, approved by admins. obviously it would be hell if an admin had to approve of every thread and post.
i meant limiting the points not the posts articles and projects you can start. if youre limited to say like 25 points for posts per day, after 26 you stop earning points for posting that day. or if you can only earn points for one article a day (since those are worth a hell of a lot more, 25 each) if you write a second one that day no points for you.
so people can still troll and spam normally, they just cant get points for it .
and youre right. right now points are pretty worthless except for getting into the vip boards. nothing else really to buy.

I'd say imposing a limit would be pretty much worthless. If someone can come up with more than 25 useful posts a day, they deserve the points they get. People who spam can be banned or deleted, which would be a good way of weeding out the troll types anyway.
Cecil's idea of limiting points recievable per whatever for each thingy [concise and meaningful ] really appeals to me. Although for articles rather than saying one per day, I'd probably say seven per week (or a similarly equivalent distribution of whatever is considered fair) as I can imagine having two ideas for articles together, or as many people do, a small series of articles, and it would be a pain in the ass to be semi-forced not to release them on the same day, when you probably aren't going to be writing any more for a small while (if you see what I mean).
Also, I personally wouldn't have given full credit for backdated points, but that is just me =]
