I've had mmf2 for 5 years and I haven't made 1 bloody game with it. I didn't waste 5 years of my life and failed my grades just because of this.
I know it sounds stupid but I've been feeling really bad about myself because I haven't even achieved this one goal that I've been dreaming about. I've actually been depressed and physically hurt myself cause of it.
I spent the last 2 weeks trying to make the character sprite and I failed and failed every single time.
Can someone please be my official spritist and help me finish my goal.
Hey guys, if you need a spritist or someone to create anything about art:
-Logos
-Cut-scenes
-Sprites
and all sort of other things, then just send me an email or PM me!
I think it's sort of better that you learn to do it yourself. It's always hard at first. Lower your standards sometimes, you can't make a big game if you can't make the little ones. Heck, if you have to, lower your standards enough and make a joke game. It's good practice and gives you a tiny boost of confidence for finishing it. You don't even have to show anyone, what's important is you get it done.
Anyway, few want to make things when the first sentence is that you can't do anything. Sorry, but people just don't want to spend time on something that ends up vaporware. You should at least mention what kind of game you're making and give a demo of your work. If you really can't get either of that, then try and join another team, just for the experience.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Whoa, physically hurt yourself? That's a red flag for you to take a break or stop doing whatever is causing you to do that altogether. My rule for game making is this: "If you think it's crap, it probably is, but it's the best you can do." And move on. You'll get things done that way and over time you will get better, no doubt. If you get depressed over something quite so piddly like this, I would highly recommend you at least take a break and not worry so much about it!
Try one more time to make the character sprite, and no matter how much you may hate it, go with it anyway.
Oh, and above all, remember that whether or not you can make an MMF2 game has no bearing whatsoever on your quality as a person. Do not feel bad about yourself for that, it's dangerous and entirely false.
There's nothing wrong with making a lot of stupid little games, they help you along your way to learn how to do things. I've made plenty in my time.
Who cares if you've have MMF2 for 5 years? I've been clicking for 7+ years and never made a full-length game. It's more about having fun, and being part of a community. No one thinks less of you if you haven't made a game or not.

Who cares if you've have MMF2 for 5 years? I've been clicking for 7+ 9+ years and never made a full-length game. It's more about having fun, and being part of a community. No one thinks less of you if you haven't made a game or not.
^ That ^
Although I did make one full game, but it was so so so so so naff, I don't count it.
But if you want to make a full game, then don't make complex sprites, make them simple. Like make them blocky and simple. Make them small as its easier to make various animations of the sprite.
Walking/Running is always hard animation, so a easy tip is to make the feet no be attached to the body. And then animate it so one foot goes back while the other one goes over it.
Logos, get a trial of Fireworks/Photoshop. Get a font. Type in the name of whatever. Then place a boarder around the font, and some shadowing inside it. And bob's your uncle a simple stylish logo.
Cutscenes, Just use path movements and in game sprites = must easier and better.
Why is my 7+ crossed out with a 9+ next to it in the quote?

Cause it's reflecting me (I just copied your post because I was lazy and couldnt be bothered re-typing something similar.) So I changed the 7+ cause it's been 9+ for me
Ha ha ha. This new game I'm making hopefully shall be my first full proper decent game. *fingers crossed*
If you'd like to work on a completely non-serious game where we just throw in terrible graphics and have the simplest coding ever, just for the team effort experience, then I'm in, I'll help, but you've got to do a part of the work or I might as well do it myself.
What do you say?
Blood of the Ancient One, Seen only as Shadow, Faster than Lightning, Fierce as the Greatest Dragon, Nearly Invisible, Floating in a Dream, Entered through the Demon Door, Destroyer of Evil in a Realm with a Red Sky Scarred, Who could I be ?
Your games are some of the best I've seen. Don't feel bad about not making games... I haven't finished any of my games either and although I feel really bad too, I realize I have to keep in control... You have helped me a lot of times when I was stuck and I saw your post/tutorial... You're also a great sprite artist... If you can't make your character sprite, don't worry... You'll always be the best. We can never match your awesomeness. (Well, I can't at any rate.) Maybe it's a sign that you should take a break for a while... But that burning desire is burning into your soul (Well that's how I feel) ... It'll be alright... Now GO! Draw that character like I know you can! And your game will be amazing!
Woah, I thought no one replied to this topic. I was taking it too seriously when I wrote this.
Thanks for your wonderful replies and words of encouragement. You guys rock

MMF2 came out in 2006. So three years is probably more accurate.
Anyway, sorry to hear about the self-harming, although you probably should stop game-making for a bit if it does cause you problems. It's not worth it - believe me, I've been there, done that and got the scars which is something you don't want.

Lol, I think he meant he had MMF for 5 years and upgraded somewhere along the way.

Actually, I had KnP for 1 year, TGF for another year and then bought MMF2 for 3 years so far.
I am working on a mini game, just look out for the downloads soon. You might even see it in the front page (That's when I release it of course)
