Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day! And just to make it even more shiny the new Monkey Island game's going free. This may sound like an advert but really it's just an excuse for me to get nostalgic and jump back into the piratey boots of Guybrush Threepwood.
Fortunately the new game seems to have the same style of humour as the old ones, and having the same voice actors from Curse is an added bonus. On the other hand, the interface is both oversimplified and clunky; It feels better suited to an analogue stick than a mouse. Still, the graphics are all rather nice, even if I had to turn them down to minimum in order to get any decent frame rate out of my laptop. The treasure hunting mini-game is pretty cool as well, what with the ability to unlock extra stuff online.
All in all, a rather enjoyable little installment made all the better for being free. Yar-harr!

Looks like I was fibbing. I went ahead and downloaded it anyway, and it plays acceptably in 640x480. I'm glad I tried it, even though Wallace and Gromit was too choppy! Been needing a nice game to play, and this one'll work well with my tablet to boot! Er... To booty! Ar ye matey and all that grog swill bilge rat poop deck tack 'n' for'ard plunderin' scallawag.

I played the Monkey Island game on someone else's computer, then installed it on mine later... But my computer must not want me playing it.
Everything installed correctly, it's just, when I try and open it nothing happens. I watched the processes list in Task Manager and saw "MonkeyIsland101" that comes up for about 10 seconds after I run the exe, then just disappears. Did anyone else experience something like this?
I guess the free offer is over now... Oh well.
