How is everyone's schedule looking for October? Shall we organise another short competition, like the Oneswitch comp. last month? Thinking of organising it over a weekend this time.

- It's 2009, just in case you missed that
"Console Wars"
- Make a game for a pre-defined console
- Check the thread for rules
- No deadline as yet
- No prize

"Video Game Name Generator Competition"

"GameBuilder Mascot Competition"
- Theme: Create a mascot and game
- Not sure if this is still running
There isn't really anything in the way of mini-competitions going at the moment. And quite honestly that's all I have time to make these days. That's why I usually suggest running some small 2-day (or 2 hour) competitions. Hope this helps.
I have plenty ideas. We have lots of "Make a general game in x hours" or "Make a so-and-so game" (scary, Christmas, etc) competitions here, but they often attract a lot of platform games. I'd like to start a regular alternative competition here that would hopefully encourage people to explore new areas of design. I'll probably start something this weekend.

Well, there would be a time restriction. That's kind of unavoidable for a successful competition.
I'd also like to see some more shmups here. We had a quick shmup competition in 2008 and it went pretty well. (http://www.create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=211289&show=all#post_212231 )
I can re-upload the games if you want to check them out.
Still not sure if this week's competition will be a shmups theme, though I would add some other limitation in like "vertical shmup" or "cute shmup". Maybe a slight variation on the theme too. I like Clayton's idea about providing a template, but also understand that some people would find that annoying.
Hey everyone. I won't have time this weekend to run a competition. Life is just too busy at the moment. Of course, if someone else would like to host one, please go ahead. I'll hopefully have time next weekend.
I'm curious: How exactly are we defining "shmup" here? ^^; I'm not entirely savvy on klik slang.
I've always wanted to dive into one of these competitions, but to be honest, I can never really think of anything to make myself. My ideas for new games are few and far between. Guess I just gotta wait for the right kind of theme to inspire me.
shmup is short for shoot-em-up. Usually a autoscolling game with random things flying at you that you have to destroy for score, and an end boss that you have to kill to progress.
