Hey everyone, here are a few pics from a game that I'm debating whether or not to make. I know I've got a lot of projects that I'm working on (some of which I haven't announced yet, jic I don't go through wit them) but this one I actually started before a lot of the games I'm working on. It's called Revenant Dreams. I'll give a brief synopsis of part of the story (because I don't want to give away anything in case I do start the project):

You follow the main character, Scott Thorn, who is a police officer in his town. When you receive a phone call from your mom, who you wonder why hasn't talked to you in a long time, you find out that your father has been killed, and it might have been one of the local townspeople that killed him. This angers you, but you decide to return to your hometown for the first time in years to attend your father's funeral and try to find out what caused his death. Upon your return your hometown, Echo Meadow, seems to have changed. It looks run down and it seems to be crawling with creatures like you've never seen before.

Now here's what I wanted to post. I have made a few pics of the current engine and I've been wanting to show them for awhile, so I can get some feedback on them, but I haven't until now. I know these 2 pics don't show much, but I most post more to show more. Tell me how you like em!

I'd like to say something about this, but those screenshots don't tell me much.

Yea, sorry bout that. Hopefully, if I can get a little farther with the engine I can post some more screenshots that show some more. That could take a little awhile though...

Yeah, I can definitely see it. The reason why I started this game was because I wanted to make a Silent Hill tribute game (if you remember that topic I made on the forums awhile back). But the story definitely sets itself, maybe not from the Silent Hill franchise, but it's a completely original story unlike any of the previous Silent Hill games.

Thanks alot andy, hopefully I can get farther with this engine. I'm still not sure if I'll finish this project, but I already have enough ideas floating around, its just the matter of some difficult programing...

Ok, it looks really cool so far. I just thought you were trying to keep the rest of the project secret because of the way you avoided telling the story.

The lighting is really cool! Would love to see the game!

And some artistic thoughts:
(please keep in mind that I only express what would be my personal approach to the design, I'm not trying to "prove you wrong" or anything)

The main design of the characters are uncomfortably unproportioned imo. I'd like to see longer legs and smaller head. Right now it more resembles a small child in the proportions than an adult.
Also, the "face-plate" design (i.e no face) can work really well for a realistic style, but remember that that technique is more often used because you don't have enough space to cram in eyes/nose/mouth, like the castlevania sprites for instance. But your sprite has enough free space in the facial-area to draw a small picture! If you intend to keep the design I would recommend working with shading the eye-area as to "hide" the eyes from the player, now there aren't even sockets!

Other than that, great initiative!
