GOTM December - 2nd place!
27th November, 2009 at 13:55:24 -

So I'm old school and still using The Games Factory...

One of my testers has reported that the volume of sound effects compared to music in my game is too loud. I haven't really noticed this myself, or at least I've noticed the sound effects are louder but not uncomfortably louder, so I imagine it's an issue with how the windows volume control is set for the user playing the game. Still, I was wondering, if there is any way in-game to control volume of sound in TGF, be it a standard TGF feature or by way of a plug-in. If the latter, do you know where a plug-in can be found? I can't seem to find them online anymore...

I tried playing with the 'mixer' object but it didn't really do anything.

Peace

If you're using midi for your music then the volume for that is controlled independently of the game. As in, controlled by windows, and unfortunately if your friend is running vista then the volume control for midi has been removed.

all windows versions do like to turn midi up to 11 dont they. i used to actually edit the midi files to reduce the velocity of the notes, but that isnt an option for most people.

I solved it by putting my music into Audacity, adjusting the sound levels there, then making a .wav or something and not midi because it pauses when ever the music loops when playing midi music

Probably better with .ogg, cuts the file size a lot and no loss of quality.

I personally use uncompressed .raw, it's larger file size makes it seem like your game has content.

dont know what to tell you then. you on vista or win7?

you really should get tgf2 or the most recommended mmf2. or if you dont have the money go for construct - http://www.scirra.com/ (still in beta but pretty stable and awesome) or gamemaker - http://www.yoyogames.com/ (crap software for noobs).
