Something people don't seem to understand about the Penguin Suit in New Super Mario Bros. Wii is that it lets you slide on water. That makes it useful in more than the Ice World. There's even a level in World 4 that gives you the Penguin Suit and a Power Star so you can slide across the water and rack up an easy combo. Also, people call it useless, or an item clone. It doesn't really matter if it has the same ice powers as something else, because I doubt that you'd complain if all the Penguin Suits were replace with Item Flowers, until of course you wish you wouldn't slide everywhere.  While making 5 out of 10 characters in a fighting game clones is not a very fun thing at all, making 2 powerups in a Mario game similar but still different enough is not really a very valid point to me at all.
Also, for those who can't swim with it, I don't see how it could be very hard at all. Use the D-pad and press A if you want to go faster. Easy enough. Quit complaining. 
Oh yeah, I 100%ed that game.

Is this correct? Sounds pretty awkward to me. Other than that, I didn't know about the penguin suit. Nice to see that it's not just used for underwater levels. I remember how laughably useless the frog suit was in SMB3 outside of water.

Yep I'm getting it for Christmas too. It looks great, I can't wait to try multiplayer.
