I really want to try puting linux on my old laptop. But I before I do I want to know if I can still run MMF on Linux?
Answers appreciated! (And pretty much anything else regarding the installation of Linux.)

Does it work well with WINE? Because I've tried MMF with WINE on Mac OS X and it didn't function as well as it does with Windows.

it works perfectly fine, as long as you know how to set it up right. there are specific windows dlls that you need to copy over into your Wine system32 folder that doesnt come with the default installation.
i recommend doing a fresh install of your windows. updating it. reinstalling it up to the point where mmf2 gets installed on it. then copy your entire system32 folder into your wine folder.
this holds true to some extensions as well. some extensions need certain dlls that arent already installed. you can use "Depends" to find most dlls a program needs to run,

I seem to recall installing some applications in WINE (can't remember if it was MMF2) and having some wonky interface stuff going on. It "worked" but the buttons and margins were all off...
Worth a try! Linux is free.

Thanks guys, now I know why so many programs I've tried to use on WINE always asked for a dll, I'll be sure to copy the dll files.
Do you guys recommend any version of Linux? I was thinking about Fedora or Ubuntu.

Go with Ubuntu for the first try.
What are the specs on your old laptop? You may want Xubuntu.

1 GB Ram, about 1.8 Ghz processor, 75 GB HDD - I've figured out that's it's already capable.

Yea. For me "old laptop" is more in the range of a 366 Mhz machine. It'll run Ubuntu fine.

My dad wanted to put it on a different machine, now I will have it on a 2 GB Ram, 2.2 Ghz processor (i think?) and 500 GB HDD desktop computer. I think I'll learn to love Linux.

yeah. the old steam did that. the UI was all screwy. like it had the steam scroll bar and a regular windows gui window scrollbar. so it had 2 scrollbars for both horizontal and vertical. and they conflicted with each other, made it impossible to scroll.
Wine isnt a solution to everything. it does a pretty good job for the most part though. and is always being updated. you can submit bug reports, installation reports, etc. that help them to update wine and make it compatible with a wider range of windows software at www.winehq.com

Well just for an update Ubuntu is working pretty well for me, figuring out to install Wine was a pain though.
