I decided to test my Pixel art skills again after looking at the Console Wars Compo. Here is about an hours work. I cannot draw and have no artistic vision so be prepared for a disgusting mess. Let me know how to improve the things i have already done.
EDIT - Couldn't get it to load through TDC so here is a link to a html page with it running in vitalize
It is really hard to put detail into such small areas. If you want to add extra detail to the graphics you might want to try a super deformed look, Otherwise your character's entire face will take up about 3 pixels.
The tree looks silly when it's smaller than the man so you could try making it a bush?
Also it might help you to make your art tesselate so you can build large objects out of smaller objects instead of having every single thing really tiny.
You're using 25 colours btw.
Like i said Artistic Vision is one thing i don't have. LOL
The Tree/Bush did initially start off as a bush but Miracle Gro does exactly what it says on the tin .
I am actually proudeest of the bird. When it is animated it looks pretty good.
I have left the characters face blank on purpose as i can't draw faces AT ALL!!!
The number of colours was initially supposed to be low so i could at least attempt to include it in the afore mentioned compo but my enthusiasm took hold and the result is above. I'm gonna have another go at the tiles again though. Just to let you know, I'm using the built in MMF2 Picture Editor and all objects/tiles are drawn within a 16x16 grid.
Thanks for the Feedback. Anyone else got anything useful to add?
Yeah he is supposed to be a spring man (think zebedee from the magic roundabout) but i forgot to use a mask as the player so he doesn't actually bounce just slide!! Whoops.
Is there anything i can do to improve on what i have actually done already? I am going to increase the tile sizes to 32x32 and i'll see how they look. I'll post the results on here later.

That's not true. I think given the style with went with, it looks really good. Since you asked, I think you might want to ease up on the darkness under the grass and/or make it blend in with the dirt tile more. But everything up top is groovy.
