I'm sure this topic has been covered many times, but I think it is a really great discussion and could benefit from being brought up again. So I'm just curious, who here sells click games? Or who here has sold them, why did you quit? Who has tried? Any suggestions for other people wanting to do this? Post your stories of your attempts of going into the world of marketing your creations!

"Crowdsourcing" platforms such as Kickstarter seem to be all the rage nowadays. I've even seen tabletop board games being developed/supported/sold thanks to KS campaigns. I don't see why it wouldn't work for software, Klick-derived or otherwise.
I'm sure there are some KS success stories for software projects developed by indie coders; I recommend having a look at that for inspiration.

I am in the flashgame business (with Steve Harris) and do gfx jobs (mostly flash games as well). I also started making little games for companies. I now got to the point where I make more money with this than I do with my job (which leads to funny tax problems).

Whoa, that's cool Hayo. So do you get the money from the flashgame ads, or just for designing the little flash games for companies? Must say, it's really amazing that you have surpassed the money you make with your job. You're a teacher correct? I realize it's not a high paying profession, but many people live on that salary alone, so to surpass it is really quite a feat.

Ive thought about selling games before but I just can't see myself really commit to making a commercial game from the start. I just start working on something and, I dunno, indie games just have to be different to what I usually end up with.
I'm interested in hearing more about Hayo's work though.
Tell us more.

I've never tried to sell a pc game but I have thought about it. I think it is difficult because so much stuff to the PC is free.
I just recently bought the IOS exporter though and I submitted my first game to Appstore a couple of days ago. It will cost $0.99 US. Hopefully that will generate something but the main reason for making the game in the first place is because I still enjoy it.
I made a quick trailer for the game here (only for Ipads): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S5aXzkS57Q
/End of shameless advertising
Making a game for Appstore or Android Market is in my book a very good way of trying to sell a game for a beginner since you don't have to make a website or anything to host the game. You can just make your game and then put it up there.
My advice is to first and foremost make games because you enjoy it, and if you make a game you enjoy chances are others will and then you can decide to sell it. I think many people consider it a big deal selling a game but it really isn't. Just do it or don't, you can always change your mind later on .

Step 1: get talented at something
Step 2: find the right people and be nice to them
Lots of people on this site already have step 1 and are capable of step 2.
