It's time for The Buswick video game development competition! I'll let the video do the talking:

The basics:

Theme: Action Adventure. Like Zelda, but make something new!

1st place prize
Multimedia Fusion 2 Developer and an export module. Make iPad games, Android games, XNA games, or other things!

2nd place prize
Retron 3 console and Goof Troop. Play NES, SNES, and Genesis games!

3rd place
$25 gift card to a video game store and 5 copies of Splotches ( http://splotchesgame.com ). Play whatever you want that's $25!

Deadline: August 31st, 2013 11:59PM GMT-5.

Four iOS publishers are watching the entries, and everyone gets at least a fancy-pants certificate and a copy of Splotches for entering.

Visit the site for all the details! http://thebuswick.com

If you have any questions, fling them now!

(Edited to update deadline from July 31st to August 31st.)

Well I might have to try my hand at this.
I need that XNA exporter!

Do you think a lot of people will enter? If not this could be easy.

Another competition - yay!
Right now, I'm completely failing to think of an interesting "action adventure" game concept, but if I do come up with something in the next week or two, I'll probably have a go at entering

Hoping to pull something together for this...It's been a while since I've finished something, and I have a number of half-finished projects that could fall into this category. Hoping to find an artist.

Good on you, OMC!

Well thanks, Rikus! I've had a blast planning everything and seeing it all come together.

Wanted to note that the forum is now up and running over at the site, if anyone wants to try to buddy up or post about their projects. I also encourage discussion and project pages here at TDC, if it strikes anyone's fancy to do so.

Are there any restrictions on pre-made code? Engines and the like?

Though I would like not to limit pre-made code in the interest of seeing polished (finished) entries, I think since there are prizes at stake, everyone should start from the same place.

How about this: If you use pre-made code, it must be made available to others from the start. I can provide hosting in such cases.

Feedback on this policy is welcomed.

Since you asked, I think it seems unenforceable. For example, I could write a new platform engine totally from scratch, but chances are, it would end up virtually identical to previous engines anyway, just because that's the only/best way I know how. At the same time, you don't want people submitting games that they've already been working on for months, so it's difficult...
Anyhow, I'm still trying to think of a game idea, and still failing (plus I just got another job, so I might be too busy).

This is true.

The primary interest is in the creativity and quality of the content anyway. If you want to use a framework you've already created, I won't begrudge it.

30 days seems kind of short for something like this . . .

I'll be entering, though. I haven't completed an entry for a competition since 2002. Hopefully this one will help me make that change.
