Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to have an image in the background that will follow the playfield as it scrolls?

No. That would be an active object, backgrounds don't move. To follow the playfield as something scrolls, tick/untick the "follow the playfield" box.

Well, I want a picture in the background of my scrolling game and it gives a feeling of depth in the game. It's a space game, so the galaxies and stuff in the background is so far away it's not moving at all. It feels kind of stupid when the stars look like a wall behind the spacecraft.

just make sure everthing is an active object and in front of the galaxy. (they have to be active objects too.

right click on the object and choose object preferences
then choose extra and untick follow the playfield.

it should stay where it is but you will only see it if it is in the top left of the playing field and anywhere within the coordinates of the screen size eg 320x200 800x600.

use a background system object, and use its alterable values to track X and Y. well i use it for clouds and a static screen, dunno how it would really work with scrolling, but it shouldn't be hard.

Well, I guess I'll have to drop the whole background thing and just make it a wall. I have programmed the entire thing for background objects and I just can't start all over, changing every platform in the game to Active objects. I know those are the only ones who are able to follow the playfield (but they don't have to be in the top left corner, do they?). A background plugin thingy would work maybe, but I never use plugins, it's against my religion. = The only plugin I use is the screen resolution plugin and I just might go as far as the DMC (or whatever the mod player is called). But I always try to not use any plugins that will affect the way you program the game, not even fastloop. It's my motto, I feel better with no plugins. I just spent a few months getting a really cool gravity engine working properly without plugins of any sort, and I'm real proud of my skills right now. I know I'm crazy, but it's just my nature.

Well, that still kind of needs me to redo the levels with the platforms as active objects, wich sucks. Maybe that's the only way out of the mess I've put myself in. Why god, why?! Why didn't I think of this before I did the engine!?! *Alt + tabbing to cnc for a week of work for nothing*
