Before I found out FASA had sold the Shadowrun licence, I sent them an email telling them to do another game. A Shadowrun MMORPG would be awesome.

Hmm... MMORPG. That could be interesting, but it really needs a strong single player story as well. Maybe they could make it like Phantasy Star Online where you have a single player game and then you can level up characters for the multi-player side and the other way around. Have like a central core story mode where you play through a linear story and then have the online part of it open up all sorts of side-missions and additional story elements that help to make the world feel complete. If it is infact already in development and isn't coming out until 2006, that gives them a good 3 years to craft a HUGE game-world.

I think the reason it would work so well is that there are so many roles that players can play happily, rather than just being a generic hero who does nothing but trade items and explore dungeons.
Look at all the financial/conquest games on the web. Imperial Conflict, Star Peace, Kings of Chaos. There's almost no action involved, but you can spend months just building up your empire/recruits/corporation. So players would be happy to sit around and work as a member of a corp.
To sabotage other corps, you've got the players who shadowrun. You could even have a player-designed matrix where IC is developed and placed in the company matrix by corporate deckers. And with so much illegal activity going on, there'd be plenty of aciton for security players, who might work together in a Lone Star-type corp to apprehend runners in exchange for company tribute.
Add to that an astral plane, shamans, a dozen different races, GM dragons at the head of corps, mafia, elven fortresses, and you've got the bestest online RPG ever.
