Project: Mr. Map Maker (v2.5)
Project Overview |
|
Mr.Map Maker is 2-part map creation program, which you can use in click products and many different coding languages.
|Part 1|
In Part 1 you can create a picture of the map you are making. For example 3/4 game styled towns, topdown shooter maps or even platformer maps. Also you can create tilesets from in-game screenshots.
I'm having problems with few objects, so I included source, so you can change tilesize or transparent colour and you need to use windows paint or something to create large maps from Smaller maps.
Features: (version 1.1)
-32x32 tile-editor
-Few tile editing things
-Customisable backround colour
-Unlimited map-size
Version 1.2
-Added Shadow/light system
-Source
Version 1.3
-Commented source
Patch 1.4:
-Changed/Commented quick guide.
-Typo fix
-Added button guide when putting mouse over button.
-Deleted layer codes (which didn't work).
-Few small graphics/interface added/ changed.
-Code cleaned up.
-Counter bug fixed.
-Included Grand Guide!
-Readme file renewed.
-Icon changes.
-Settings changed.
Bugs:

|Part 2|
Part 2 is the app, which you use after you have done your image. It makes the different action boxes in to the game. Action boxes can be used as traps/triggers, animated tile placer, collision boxes, sound efect boxes etc.
Features:
-999 different active objects
-in-app text editor
-Source!
Patch version 2.1
-Object limitation bug fixed
-Source changes
Version 2.2
-Source commented
Patch 2.3:
-Changed totally the color system
-You can now hide sub-applications
-Made markers into 2 layers and changed them into backdrops, so they won’t slow the app so much
-Counter fixed, so it won’t create new counter if there is one.
Patch 2.4:
-Changed loop loading into fastloop
-Speechbubble guide added
-icons changed
-Quick guide edited
-Typo fix
Guide:
Added Grand guide!
I succest to download this if you have version 2.3, because this the new one is radically changed.

Yesterday, I watched old pokemon online map maker, which I had on computer (the one, which is the inspiration of mr.map maker). Well there when user picks picture from anywhere on tileset, never moving tileset. After 10 seconds I knew how it is done and that will be now implemented into tilepicker. So now the tileset doesn't move, but the selector moves. This makes the system more profeccianal. I'm now pretty pleased on the system, because compared 2.5 vs 2.4, the 2.5 looks, works and is more profeccional and easier to use.
Also I'm planning on making it in english and finnish. Also I try to do some ideas, which I have about making the tilesize to change. If this works, the source won't be with the application anymore, because none needs it. Exept I could add the old source of 2.4.
But thats about this devlog.

Ok now I've been making menu and it's working greatly. Now I'm pretty pleased in making most of theactions from application menu, because it is more professional looking and it's more faster to do that adding all buttons in toolbox.
The menu looks like this:
1. File
-New
-Reset Layer
-Load Backround
-Load Array
-Save Backround
-Save Array
-Quit
2. Tile Settings
-Flip Tile
-Turn Tile
-Add Ink-Effect
3.Settings
-Backround Direction
-Change Layer
-Current Mode
-Set Map Position
4.Visibility
-Tile Selector
-Text-Editor
-Tile Overview
-Toolbox
-Hide Layer
-SpeechBubbles
5.Help
-Quick-Guide
-Grand-Guide
-About
Also I've been layering stuff into 7 layers, so the application will have 7 layers.
-Layer 1 is Backround layer, where will be backround color and backround picture object.
-Layers 2-5 are picture layers 1-4. In these layers you put your tiles from tileset.
-Layer 6 is where you put/load Markers.
-Layer 7 is system layer, where is all sub-apps and buttons etc. And you can't edit this layer within the application.
Now next devlog is coming when I get toolbox ready, but it can take some time, because I have now some other stuff which has more priority. Also I'm going in army in 45 days, and I'm not sure how my company likes laptop's, so it could take 3-13 months until next devlog.

Ok, here's the progress so far...
As you can see from the pictures I've done a few edits. First is new look of text-editor. Second is Tile overview, which I decided to add as a sub-application.
Also I've been doing some edits in the button system. Originally I had main and toolbox having all the buttons. Now all main system buttons are deleted and put into main's menu tab. Now I have more professional look and smaller toolbox. Also this eases the coding a bit, because I have lesser amount of global values to worry about.
This far I've also done some editing in the main of the application. I have Gradient backround, which can be edited into vertical or horizonal. Also the colours to it are chosen with color selector. Also I've included bars, so you can move the hole application with mouse. But if someone wants to use keyboard, shortcut keys are also added.
This far the new version is going to be more professional and user friendly, but now is starting the hardest part. I need to compine the 2 applications. Basicly if I can't get layering work then the hole application stops working. Also I'm am scaring about the bugs. Now version 2.4 changed the system so much, that major bugs were cutdown, but new big bugs appeared.
I fixed into the new version the scrolling bug, which was in version 2.4's part 1. And now I think this part will work. Now part 2 had problems with including the markers. This is what I fear and hopefully it will work. I hope that god comes (well 2 months ago retired from church, but still...) and by accident I get this to work.
Well next devlog comes when I got progress updated. Mayby after I get the menu to final.
Edit: Ah and by the way, I found same styled program named "MapMaker", has been made with python, but hey this is way better than that ;D

Ok I've made some adjustments to the tile loader and it's now ready. As you can see from the picture. I'll added buttons, which you can use to move your tileset. But I did left the old arrow keys and enter in it.
I've got my newest idea from it too. I'll add shortcuts. Also I thought making the speech bubbles in group, so I can set an option to disable them, if they are in way.
Also into my main application I'm going to be adding menu, to take some buttons out of the toolbox. Also I'm going to use more groups so my codes will be cleaner.
My next intension is to make changes into text editor change the quick-guide into help file.
After that is done I'll write new devlog.
