Flyte is a cartoony, sidescrolling SHMUP with a hint of retro. Fight off the prevailing Nano virus as Flyte, Sky, Wynd, and Glyde, and (Intended uber cliche' ahead) save the world! Then get great discounts at IHOP for your bravery.
Characters:
Flyte: He's stupid, a ladies man, and has a clueless smile stuck to his face. And large eye brows. He's also been assigned as the leader of the "Waffle squad"; a squad that he named. The waffle squad consists of Flyte, Sky, Wynd, and Glyde. His suit and funny hat color is blue.
Sky: She's timid, but underneath she's brimming with curiosity and positivity. Her suit and funny hat color is red.
Wynd: He's happy-go-lucky, yet worrisome about most situations, and loves computers. But above of all... he loves cats. Every cat Wynd had owned somehow fell into lava. He's counting 46 next time. Wynd's suit and funny hat color is green.
Glyde: He's serious, abit snobby, and hates putting up with Flyte's constant stupidity. He often questions why he wasn't comissioned as the leader of the ridiculously named "Waffle squad". He often times argues with Flyte. His suit and funny hat color is Yellow.
Weapons-
Energy shield: Your melee attack. Not as effective as a blaster, but it gets the job done. Also it gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling of whacking your enemies with brutal force that most guns can't give you. Also, no ammo. Nice.
Main Fire: Creates a small, short shield that encases you. Fast, but does little damage. It's a nice little finisher anyway.
ROF(Milliseconds): 50
Alt Fire: Creates a large, long shield that encases you. Slow, but does a good deal of damage. Definitely more fun to hit enemies with than Main Fire.
ROF(Milliseconds): 150
PS-12: Your good ol' starting pistol. It's compact, shiny, and oh so nifty. Oh yeah, your enemies may think it's a toy by its color. Bust it out and prove them wrong.
Clip size: 12
Main Fire: Fires a small blue laser. Makes a fun "Pyew" sound too.
ROF(Milliseconds): 25
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a fatter, grenade like laser. <Advert>Goes through floors, walls, and ceilings! Makes cheap fireworks out of enemies! Get yours today!</Advert>
ROF(Milliseconds): 50

SARE-16: A light, compact repeater rifle. Sure, it's been replaced by newer models, but really, no one wants to pay up to 70,000 ryons for slightly better rifles.
Clip size: 16
Main Fire: Fires a small red laser. Gets rid of enemies fast.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a small red laser very, very fast. Like weed killer to weeds. Today's metaphor was brought to you by Dinwex. "Clean your windows with a streak-free shine!"
ROF(Milliseconds): 1
Bullets per: 1
RPS-24: A fast, automatic pistol. There's a label on the side of the gun. " WARNING: Do not eat bullets or gun. Doing so will result in injury or death."
Clip size: 24
Main Fire: Fires a small yellow/aqua laser. Don't eat it though, should you ever feel the impulse: Even milk can't make it taste good. That's harsh, man...
ROF(Milliseconds): 15
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a medium sized yellow/aqua energy ball that bounces off of the play field. You can't eat it.
ROF(Milliseconds): 100

HAWK-25: A fast, belt-fed gatling gun. Comes with a free collectable Duck NuckemŽ action figure when you use your debit card!
Clip size: 25
Main Fire: Fires a medium sized yellow-orange bullet. They remind me of rice grains for some reason.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a turret that shoots rice grains in 8 directions. Unloads the clip, clears the screen.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 25
EAGLE-36: A heavy duty shotgun. Fancy mowing down enemies?
Clip size: 36
Main Fire: Fires 3 lasers in 3 directions, depending on the direction you're currently facing.

Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a medium sized ball of energy that slows down and explodes. Shiny but deadly.
ROF(Milliseconds): 50
Bullets per: 18
BTLCDBFBTC-50: A very colorful flamethrower. Rumor has it that it was used in a string of murders commited by a serial killer clown. It stands for "Burn things like crazy don't be fooled by the colors". If you ever forget, there are abbreviated and unabbreviated reminders on page 2 of the pamphlet it came with.
Clip size: 50
Main Fire: Fires flames in 3 random directions, depending on the direction you're currently facing. Lighting cigars has never been done this fast.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a burst of flames in 3 directions, depending on the direction you're currently facing.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 5
RADON-20: Developed by Mooneyman Studios, this Heavy duty Laser Pistol packs quite a punch. Goes through obstacles, enemies... everything. You're gonna feel like The Terminator with this baby.
Clip size: 20
Main Fire: Fires a long-ish blue laser. Destroys much. Gets job done. Repeat next mission.
ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: Fires a Large Blue laser that creates explosions upon surface contact. Don't try fighting the urge to hold down the Alt Fire key.
ROF(Milliseconds): 50
Bullets per: 10
FALCON-36: A fast, heavy assault carbine rifle. You want to strike terror into the heart of your enemies? Then you need this.
Clip size: 36

ROF(Milliseconds): 10
Bullets per: 1
Alt Fire: The screen flashes Purple and White. No more enemies.
ROF(Milliseconds): 50
Bullets per: 36
Copter Blades: A blade retrieved from Copters that first appear in level 1. They destroy any enemy upon contact. Except bosses, of course.
Clip size: 1
Fire: Fires a blade. It looks strange.
ROF(Milliseconds): 50
Bullets per: 1

Sorry it's been a while since the last update. Crazy stuff going on lately, and no progress has been made since level 3. Any free time I got was spent on drawing.
I can't wait to start on AI. But that'll be in the second level, so I doubt it'll come soon.
Here's all the photos I have to offer so far. Enjoy!
Stage Select (Looks way better in motion, pardon ):
Stage 1:
Stage 2:
(Pwned)
Stage 3 (Only the level editor, I haven't copied the code yet):
The engine is done! This means that the first level code can now be Copy/pasted into other frames an operate properly! With that said, I may actually be able to finish the game. I'm certainly motivated enough to.
In other news, I cut back from the weapon ammount from 14 to 10. It was completely coincidential; the original Flyte had 14 weapons as well. Honestly though, when you have 14 weapons, most of which are repeaters, it really does get... well... repetitive. I was running out of Alt Fire ideas anyway.
That's all for now! It's exciting getting something big like the engine out of your way. And hey, if all goes well, I may actually start back up on X.
Aye aye aye... Mandolin, Drums, Drawing, and of course... School. It's been really distracting these past few days. Good grief, it feels like a week...
BUUUUUUUT, guess what? Just a few days ago I decided to learn the arcane art of the INI.
It was beautifully easy. Last year I nearly broke down trying to figure it out. lol
Well, with my new found understanding of the INI, (Which SHOULD Have been easy enough to understand long ago) I have successfully accomplished the task of saving and loading. There is still some work to be done on the Level Select screen, but for now, it works and that's all that matters.
Gameplay itself is still under construction- just barely pooping along, in fact. Level 1 is the only one being worked on at the moment, and Level 2 will have to be recoded to match level 1's code once it's finished. Yes, that means that level 3 hasn't even been started yet.
Well, that's all for now! Now pardon me, I must go investigate that light...
Remember Flyte? The game I was over the top about because I was bursting with ideas impossible on my level of knowledge? (Not to sound braggy) Yeah, I've reworked it! Staying inside the lines this time, of course. *tail wags*
Here's the preview! Youtube may still be processing the video for higher quality (EDIT: process completed) and WMM gave me crap but here it finally freaking is!
Any suggestions you have will be considered. Comments and crits welcome!
Now I go eat. I have, and am prone to, low blood sugar.
Oh yeah, that little *POIK!* at the end; Youtube never added what went along with it. >_< Stupid Youtube. Nothing important though.
