The construction of this image is beyond the experience that I have gained during my pixel experiences. You have obviously spent a great deal of time getting the lighting effects right. In my own opinion (I don't know what others may think) on the terms of "stressful position" if it is true I think it might be the way the guitar is being supported. If I can firstly bring your attention to his left hand, you would normally expect some sort of support made by this hand whilst playing but I think the way the hand is tilted creates a greater distance between the hand and the tip of the thumb. This actually means that the thumb is longer than any of the fingers and makes the guitar look as if it is suspended between the fingers and the thumb and not touching the palm at all. Secondly I would like to bring you attention to the gap in-between the legs. *cough* in my opinion again, Neil’s left leg meets with his right leg to quickly. This may not be where the leg ends but it makes his leg look considerably fatter than the other one. In effect I think it makes his legs look a little too short. I don't think they need to be made bigger; just the meeting point needs to be made higher up to keep those proportions. - I don't like to be negative but I think this is what Hayo wants. If anyone else can spot anything then post it here but don't forget to justify your thoughts. Overall, the lighting effects, the creases, the guitar and the general shading are really great! I don't think it is too shiny because judging by the light spots on the ground, there are spotlights above which are bound to illuminate Neil in this way. Great work Hayo - you should be proud
Here is a little update + the reference photo. Also I uncluded the palette I used.
I made the shiny part on his jacket a bit smaller, changed some shading parts on his arms/hands (still looks a bit odd, but so does it on the real one, note that the right hand is holding a bigsby wangbar). Also I changed some parts of the shading on his legs....still working on the meeting points of the legs now
@ Jay: wich album is that? He did about 12 albums with crazy horse
anyway, thanks all for the suggestions, I ll spend some more time working on this piece before I start on making the gfx for the next peasants game
That is amazing, the lighting is awesome. It even looks better than the actual photo, his ankles look like they are broken in the photo. You know you've done a good job when you find more errors in the reference photo than you do in the actual artwork.
the only thing I am able to say right now about that pic is only a one word: UNBELIEVABLE! I like that pic!
Beware, be alert, prepare to defend yourself, or just run for your lives(!), because
